Holy crap, this will grow some hair on your chest! It’s potent.
First, let’s get to the blend:
- 9 year Basil Hayden
- 9 year Knob Creek
- 11 yr Booker’s
- 12 yr Baker’s
All of these are great middle age, sweet spot bourbons. And by the potency, I’m going to assume cask strength. I have a gut feeling that this blend is probably greater than the individual parts—-but hell, was simply too oak driven and high strength for me personally.
The nose is amazing: smoky oak and caramel. But the taste—that’s where I got lost—-too oaky and wood driven for me.
I had it neat—-but next time, I’ll try with a honking cube of ice...that’ll tame it down a bit

I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve been really excited to find a bottle in San Diego. Unfortunately everything I have heard about this bottle seems to be pretty disappointing. I’ll taste it first before buying!
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah sometimes I need to water them right down. Also I find with bourbons there is as you say a lot of polarization. Even if well crafted some profiles I really dislike. Doesn't seem as prevalent in whisky...
@Soba45 I need to give this one another shot this eve—-with a few drops of water. I had it neat, which was simply too strong.
@BronxBourbon sounds interesting! Sadly we are very limited in NZ as to US bourbon offerings. Any special stuff like this rarely gets here. Things are so dire @PBMichiganWolverine had to do an emergency airlift of supplies over here just today for me :-)
@Soba45 Imo, it’s definitely a unique bottle. Spicy upfront but mellows out to dried fruit, brown sugar and noticeable oakiness (at least to me). Drop of water brings out more sweet notes and cuts the spice. If you’re looking for journey of a sip, this might be a worthy buy even at $120.
@Soba45 this one seems polarizing—-a few folks here seem to love it, while others not so much. I think it might depend on whether you like in-your-face potent bourbons
Sounds an interesting mix. Can't wait to try it! :-)
