Boy this gets a lot of love here so I guess Im gonna be "that guy". Im a big fan of WT products so had to try this. 112.8 proof vintage. Poured neat, has that wonderful Turkey nose of dark caramel and dusty spice, with amped up ethanol. Rich, powerful palate of caramel, strong pepper and spicy oak with char. Finishes with more pepper and cinnamon oaky char. This is the family recipe brought up several notches with some heat. The extra proof delivers very strong flavor and this stands up to other barrel proof bourbon. Not all good however for me. I find the heat and pepper spice a bit excessive and think it takes away from the delicious WT taste. Tried adding water but still too peppery. Maybe I got a bad bottle but I much prefer the flavor of Russell Reserve 10 yr or WT 101 over this and would not re-purchase..........74/100........ Im in the minority here so your mileage may vary.

@ContemplativeFox The bottle I had never improved over time it was a hot pepper mess masking full enjoyment. I have not tried a different proof yet as there are so many other bourbons I would rather try . Next up will be RR single barrel im pretty sure
@Ctrexman Have you tried it after it had a few months to oxidize or sampled the 116?
@WhiskeyLonghorn Was that the old RB or the 116? I keep hearing that the 116 is much better. I've never tried the old one, but the 116 is excellent IMHO
well.........if I have to
Yup you are that guy lol. Only way to remedy this is to buy the 116.8 and compare.
The old 108 Proof has been my favorite so far. Now that they've raised the entry proof, it has definitely upped the spice. Heck, I thought the old 108 was less spicy than the 101.
Yeah I was the same didn't do anything for me either.
I've never had the original Rare Breed, but I'm a huge fan of the 116.8 proof. I'd say it's still worth a try. Nice review!
Sorry you had a bad trip with this one. This was one of the bottles the wife got me for Christmas and I found it outstanding; better than RR 10 too, but I get that everyone’s taste and palate is different. Love the 101 and RR 10 too. All quality pours!
