I'm almost embarrassed at how long it took me to finish this, but I really just couldn't get into the idea of cask strength Redbreast after a while. Every time I drank this I found myself not enjoying it very much, and diluting it down to the point where it was pretty much the standard 40% Redbreast 12. Eventually, I just proofed down the entire bottle, which made it go much faster, but then I wonder why I paid the extra $20 for the CS version. Perhaps I got a dud batch, but I think next time I go a-hunting for Irish whiskey, I'll go back to the old standard Redbreast 12. Cheers all.

I feel you. I bought a CS yesterday and did a side by side with regular 12 - I much preferred the 12. just as well, it's almost half the price!
Saw this review from WhiskeyLonghorn and poured a finger since it had been awhile. I don't know...maybe it's just me, but since I tend to drink all whiskey neat, I don't find this whiskey that strong at all. Certainly not compared to the Booker's (admittedly a good deal higher proof) or any number of other high or CS strength proofs out there. Irish, in whatever proof, just doesn't seem to be strong enough to require dilution. With water or ice for flavor exploration I can see the value. Maybe it's the Batch run. My 2 bottles are B1/17. But I understand the concern, with pricing and even supply in some locations the way it is.
I do wish there was a middle ground on the 12. I find the standard just a tick underproofed but I’m not a big Cask Strength drinker either. An 88-92 proof would be good.
Yeah this one didn't blow me away either not sure why as at the time I liked the 12 and 15
@Rick_M I'm with you. I'm loosing the taste for CS pours, finding myself putting more and more water into them. As for Jimbo's rating, I've never paid much stock to his reviews. Seems like he's just trying to shake things up the last several years and play to his own unique palate.
@WhiskeyLonghorn - this was Jim Murray’s 2020 Irish whiskey of the year, so I bought a bottle. I also noticed it was taking much longer to drink my cask strength whiskies, so now I just add spring water to get to about 46%abv or add a pile of ice and let dilute a bit. This method beats the hell out of getting a tongue transplant someday. :)
