@jonwilkinson7309 this was labeled as a Single Barrel up until a couple years ago. They changed the bottling line which meant that whiskey from the previous barrel could remain in the line when the next barrel is dumped, so they chose to remove the SiB designation even though it’s not vatted. I have had a couple bottles that were very good but more than a couple that were not. It’s always been hit or miss for me.
@BDanner. That's interesting that it's dumped barrel by barrel and not blended. I've had it once, and by no means did I find it to be bad in any respect, but I was less impressed than I expected to be. I've intended to try it again, and now I'll definitely give it another shot.
@geologyjane you could try here: missiontrailswineandspirits.com not cheap, but the have the McKenna 10 and they ship.
@SolanaRoots - that is totally fair and you are allowed to score however you please! I was just surprised because it usually rates pretty well so I wondered if it was a bad barrel/bottle or just not your style. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever get a 5 star bourbon as the corn components hold it back for me as well. McKenna 10 has been on my list for awhile and I’ve heard great things but so far I can’t find it anywhere.
@geologyjane Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of corn-based whiskey but this rating is probably harsh. On the rocks instead of neat. Always use McKenna 10Yr as my ‘bourbon base’ that everything else is compared to and this pour fell well short of that rating. Definitely will try this one again though
@geologyjane I've had more bottles of this that I didn't care for than bottles I did. Even thought it's not "technically" a single barrel, it is still dumped one barrel at a time so there will be variation.
@SolanaRoots - Oh no, bad bottle or just not your thing?
