Nose - strong, peaty campfire smoke and smoldering ash, burning rubber, iodine, charred meat, tennis ball (ripped this off another review, but it’s totally there), pear, plum, grape, moderate ethanol burn.
Taste - peaty campfire smoke and ash, pear, peach, plum, raisin, dark chocolate, peanut, rich salted caramel, dense spiced vanilla, moderate ethanol burn, finishing long with beautiful smoky, salty chocolate and rich peanut and vanilla flavors.
It’s great stuff. At first, I thought it was too smoke-heavy, obscuring the more nuanced flavors, but give it 20 minutes or so to off-gas and it really opens up to showcase the deep fruitiness and rich, savory flavors hiding beneath the fire. It’s like standing around a bonfire, roasting s’mores, drinking peach tea, and watching a beautiful lowcountry sun set over the May River.

@soonershrink last time it took 4-5 months for things to trickle through the supply chain. Distributors likely have a lot of stock that they purchased from Scotland and already paid duties on, so until they distribute that and recoup their losses I wouldn’t expect to see any lower prices. Plus some folks (cough...Diageo/Edrington) may choose to keep prices where they’re at to increase profit.
@WhiskeyLonghorn I had seen this recently at $87+ in Oklahoma, and jumped on it when I found a dusty bottle marked $71. News out today that the scotch tariffs are being discontinued, so hopefully we'll see lower prices soon. Any idea how long it'll take to see the effect of no tariffs at the retail store?
@Ctrexman I feel like the price on this has come down around us recently. Bought a bottle at Twins for $60, and saw it for $65 at Specs earlier this week. I seem to recall that last year this was in the mid 70s. Good time to stock up!
@Ctrexman Money well spent. I’m having trouble identifying a better value Islay with a similar profile. Depending on the day, I may give an edge to the Lagavulin Distiller’s Edition, but that one’s well over $100 around here.
Now i need to buy another bottle jeesh
Im with you Oogie and Lag16 are my top peated with PC10 and Lore a tick below
@Ctrexman Yep. It’s been a while since I had it, but I remember thinking it was solid for the age but not something I’d go out of my way to stock. When the Uige’s on sale around here, it’s priced very similarly to the PC. It’s obviously a completely different profile, but I’m very much biased. It was one I tried very early on and was somewhat of a revelation for me. It’s still in my top ten of all time by rating and I think it’s an absolute steal around $70 a bottle.
Agree its amazing. Have you tried the PC10 yet?
