Talisker 10
NOSE: Sweet Smoke. Caramelized Burnt BBQ Sauce or that Caramelized Candied Bacon that has become all the rage. Briny. Dried Seagrass. Leather. Pepper Spice. Fresh Churned Butter. Hint of Light Citrus. Dive in too deep and get admonished with a little alcohol sting. The longer it's in the glass the more the Maritime Notes take over.
NEAT: Smoke. Honey. Dried Tropical Fruits like Pineapple, Mango, and Papaya. Vanilla Custard. The finish is amazing. Long and Tingly. Effervescent. It's a quick burst of Heat that tingles and fades, like you've taken a drink of super carbonated water. Ash, Light Citrus, and a Jalapeño tingle coat the palate.
SPLASH: A little water and the nose is more Fruit Forward. The effervescent quality is dampened slightly. The finish is still great with a little less Jalapeño and a little more Fruit Sweetness.
VERDICT: There is just something here that is hard to describe. Under the smoke is a crave-able sweetness that I get from no other whisky. It's hard to describe, but you just want to return to it over and over. The finish bumps this solidly into "favorite whisky" consideration. A rising tingle that just goes on and on. Plus, hours later and I'm still enjoying the sweet smoky grilled charred fruit aftertaste. This one comes in on the extreme high side of my budget at $72, but I will definitely keep a bottle of this on hand from now on.

Great review. One of my all-time favorites
When I was is MA last spring it was $39.99 in medford!!........Love the smoked toffee creaminess of Talisker
@bigwhitemike Definitely let us know what you think. I hate I waited so long to try it. I normally drink bourbon and have to be in the mood for Scotch (especially peated ones) and with the several bottles I already had open of Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, and Bruichladdich I was hesitant to add another to the bar. So glad I did. Very good whisky.
@bigwhitemike let us know what you think. Great stuff!
Alright, you all are going to make me open my bottle of the 10 finally. It’s been weighing down the shelves nicely, likely for well more than a year, I’m sure. Too many open bottles! Tasted once as a Scotch noob many many moons ago... at the bar at the top of the Hancock tower in Chicago if I’m not mistaken. Highly recommend the whiskey and the view. Ready to give it another run!
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah it was $60 until February
@Zachary-Robbins they did? Diageo bastards. Lower the quality, raise the prices.
Doesn't it suck they raised the price $12 recently?
@BDanner Welcome to the Talisker cult!
@WhiskeyLonghorn funny you mention that—-I remember noticing the same. The DE shelf life was visibly shorter than the 10
@Ctrexman for what it’s worth I like the 10 more than the DE. The DE started off amazing but then started to oxidise in a funky, bitter way after some time. I ended up blending it back into half a bottle of the 10, which balanced it out a little more and made it tasty again.
Good review. There is no such thing as a bad Talisker.
@BDanner Glad you loved it too, Talisker is amazing! The DE’s on sale near me and I’m going to take the plunge.
Me too Im ready to step up to the Distillers Edition
My local store no longer carries the Storm, but I've had this and the Game of Thrones versions and I am now an avowed Talisker disciple. Both were great.
Great review. Talisker is awesome Storm is probably cheaper but not quite as good
