Gotta love these "expert" reviews. Jake Emen gave this a 90...I can't even get to words how absurd that is. but anyway.
So yeah this is supposed to be mostly 10 year whisky but it's NAS so we're sure they dumped bad low age stated stuff in here.
Nose - so sharp and acidic, the alcohol is brutal. Chocolate and vanilla along with citrus and again more alcohol. Water tames the alcohol but same notes otherwise.
taste - young and spirited. The PX gives sweetness and vanilla and chocolate while the oloros gives some dark chocolates and perhaps some fruits. Water makes the whisky more bitter though still focuses on the same profile, I am ok with or without.
A perfectly drinkable super proofed scotch but the youth and quality here are nothing special. A solid 2.0 average whisky. Again the idea this is a 90 is so absurd I can't even start. This is more a 75 if you're a big fan of this style or a 65 if you aren't. in no world is this a 90.
That said this is massive HUGE upgrade from the terrible batch 7.
I rather am enjoying this but the price at 100 for this seems off. This isn't close to 100 dollar whisky.

@ghanta honestly man, given you're giving 4.5 plus scores to good but not epic whisky, maybe just stop responding to my reviews, this is the second time you've made these stupid comments to me. You're ignorant and need to grow up. You're new to whisky and think you know more than you do. Just go away. Or ask questions to learn but please stop with acting like a child.
@ghanta I'll leave that for you buddy. I've got standards.
U need to drink more jack daniel 40% not This Scotch .
I still can't drink my batch 7. It's a disaster of a bottle.
You are so spot on about the 7. Mu bottle of 7 has been opened for 9 months now and just now the terrible alchohol burn has been subdued by oxidation and is quite a bit more drinkable!
My experience was perhaps a bit better than yours, but I was still very underwhelmed. I was disappointed because the one other batch I tried was number 2 which I loved.
this is one of the core expressions i have yet to try, but after reading your review, it is clear that this one somehow is too young.
@dhsilv2 which makes sense—-that batch 6 was in 2017 ( from what I remember )...so, that would have been the borderline to switch
@PBMichiganWolverine well at one point the whole 6 years of being closed ment these were 15 year old CS whisky. I'm sure those where to die for, but I believe around batch 6 is when they were no longer older whisky.
@dhsilv2 i never tried any of the GD Cs versions. But, admittedly, I did buy batch 6 ages ago, namely because one of the only reviewers I followed ( Dave broom) gave it a 90, and back then, it was only $60.
Thanks for steering us clear. I’ll buy another bottle of the 15 instead.
