What to say about a bottle that has nearly 5000 reviews already? Has anybody reading not tried this yet? I thought not...
It’s Ardbeg. Somehow, I managed to try Cory, An Oa, and Ugi before buying this one. The peat is more obvious, but it gives way to lemony, zesty malt in a seamless transition reminiscent of a great film editor. Despite the 55 pppm (peat parts per million), a rather high number unless your name is Octomore, it’s not just the peat show. This remains an affordable, complex single malt that serves as a fine core bottling.
I’ve been working on a core “summer lineup” to drink off of rather than just randomly pulling bottles out of the cabinet. I’ve got an Irish, a bourbon, a peated single malt and a sherry bomb. Powers Gold, Makers 46, this, and Tamdhu Batch Strength to sip on for the next several months. Anybody out there got a favorite summer pour?

@WhiskeyLonghorn Solid quartet of bottles you have open! Mine is fairly similar with Ardbeg Uigeadail, Bruichladdich Organic 2010, EH Taylor Small Batch, Nikka Whisky from the Barrel. Cheers!
Nice review, nice idea. I’ll throw in Caol Ila12, Balvenie 14 Peat Week, Lag 16, Oban 14. Depends on the mood really, but Caol Ila might be the best. Even a Glenfiddich or Glengoyne if I’m really looking to take it easy.
I find that most of the Lowlands and Campbeltown whiskies seem to work better in warmer weather: lighter, fruitier- even the peat in Springbank seems more fitting in the summer than the winter.
I do enjoy some cheaper bourbons on the rocks in the summer heat but to be honest I will tend to shift a bit more towards beer when it's hot and any quality whisky late at night if I go that direction. I'm not big on whisky outside past 70 degrees.

@divenpuff thanks for the clarification!
Phenol parts per million
@WhiskeyLonghorn Tyrconnell 16 Oloroso & Moscatel Cask Finish, if I'm feeling self-indulgent or generous. CB Great Kings St Artist's Blend for daily sipping.
