Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA

I genuinely can't decide what I think about this whiskey. So I'm on vacation and I wanted something casual to sip and I wanted it to be something I've never had before. So here we are. On the nose, that Jack Daniel's smooth, hot, bite comes through. For me, Knob creek has always been the top of the list when it comes to bity American whiskey. This is bity, but luckily it has a smooth way about it. It's kind of like James Bond. He packs a punch, but he still knows how to be suave and have a martini in a tuxedo. And this is why it confuses me. I can't tell if it's a simple, harsher whiskey, or a richer, more elegant one. At the end of the day, it lives up to what I expected of it. It isn't overly challenging and it is reasonably pleasant to sip on. The nice corn sweetness coupled with this banana note on the palate does make me appreciate Jack Daniels as a brand more which is always a good thing.

@BDanner @cloydjason. I agree. on the Dickel. I'd take Dickel's Barrel Select over anything from Lynchburg at a remotely comparable price. Very good stuff.
@BDanner I’ll definitely be on the look out for that then! And yes I got lucky at a Total Wine in Arizona. I actually got the half bottle for 25$ but they had the full for 35$ so I went ahead and put that! Total wine is usually big into store picks so I’ll definitely have to keep my eyes pealed!
@cloydjason by the way, that $35 you paid for the JDSiB is about what I paid for my 1/2 size bottle. I wish I could get it for $35!
@cloydjason I’m a self avowed Cascade Hollow Fanboy, so I’m a little biased but I definitely think so. Especially if you liked this. The 9yr Single Barrel Dickel is usually a store pick I think for around $40-$50, a little less than the JD Single Barrel. I really liked the JDSiB and had a pour the other night. It was as good as I remembered. I couldn’t decide what to have next and stumbled on the Dickel in the back of the cabinet. Left the JD in the dust. Thicker, more clingy, with deeper flavors. Made the JD seem thin and bitter. If you see one, it’s definitely worth a shot.
@BDanner is it worth checking out?
@BDanner that’s definitely accurate. And I’ve never had the Dickel
I'm with you. I was reminded of what JD is capable of when they are not churning out middling 80 proof Nectar of the Masses. That being said, I had it back to back with a 9yr Dickel Single Barrel which blew it out of the water.
