Solid pour for the price!
Background:
I often buy a budget bourbon and leave it at my girlfriend’s house. That way, if I’m feeling a dram, I have something nearby. My girlfriend, also, likes whiskey and will make a hot toddy for a nightcap.
So I look for versatile, tasty bourbons that won’t break the bank...
Here’s the short version: Hot hot hot!Just expect OGD114 to give you a nice big, spicy ethanol hug.
Once acclimated, I get honeyed sweetness, citrus, vanilla, caramel, and spice on the nose.
On the taste, it’s hot and spicy! Cinnamon, cloves, hay, and mint. The rye is very apparent in this whiskey. There’s a underlying hint of citrus there too. At the end, I get that bit of nuttiness that’s common in Beam products.
Overall:
This is a solid budget pick. My bourbon preferences tend to lean towards high rye bourbons. I like that spice! It’s a decent pour and will hold it’s own as a mixer. Will it unseat my current budget bourbon: Wild Turkey 101? No...but it’s a good and wallet friendly! This is a 3.5 for me but gets extra points for the price.

Agree with your notes and conclusions. A heck of a value at $20 but hot and rough around the edges. I like it as an affordable option to kick up flavorful cocktails a notch.
@Benji-Robert Wow! I’m always surprised by the price variance in different regions. I live in Texas, and I consistently find 114 for $20-23. When I see the BiB, it usually costs $23-25/750 ml. The BiB is harder to find here which may explain the higher costs.
@JDeschain probably a sale or a mislabeled price. bib is typically cheapest @$23.99/1L and 114 $28.99/750ml. I've noticed BIB being sold in 750ml recently, for basically the same price as the 1l.
@Benji-Robert Thanks for suggestion! At the store, I was deliberating between OGD 114 and BiB. Oddly enough, 114 is cheaper than BiB in my area, so I chose that one. I’ll pick up the OGD BiB next round!
I'm a big fan of the bottled in bond for just casual drinking; better value overall. The 114 to me is best when you're doing shots but they are more 'special' --splash of water, nice chaser, lots of shot pounding etc
