I’m really enjoying this. I love the earthy, herbal qualities of this tequila. It’s leagues above your well marketed brands like Casamigos, Jose Cuervo, and Teremana. This is my favorite tequila for cocktails. I’m going to Jalisco next year for a wedding, so I’d love to visit the distillery while I’m there.

The hype is real. Rare Breed has been the most recommended Wild Turkey bourbon from bourbon enthusiasts. I’ve tried the regular WT, 101, Russell’s 10, and Russell’s SiB. This is 101 with more brown sugar, some heat, and brighter fruit notes like strawberries, cherries, and apple. I’m loving it. I don’t get as much of an oaky note as I do with the Russell’s. Comparing the Russell’s SiB to the Rare Breed, Russell’s is a more well-rounded bourbon with that signature WT nutty note. However, the Rare Breed has no faults. It’s what I love about WT cranked up. Dare I say that RB is more “fun” to drink if that makes sense. It’s like comparing a gourmet steak (Russell’s) to a thick, juicy hamburger with all the fixings (RB). I’m very happy with Rare Breed and plan to keep it in my shelf moving forward.

Cocchi Storico Vermouth di Torino
Vermouth — Italy
Reviewed May 14, 2022 (edited September 30, 2022)Excellent sweet vermouth. So far I’ve tried this, Carpano Antica, Martini & Rossi, and Rivata (from Total Wine). I typically use carpano antica for my Manhattans, Boulvardier, and Negronis. Comparing the two, I’d say I like the chocolatey bitter notes of the Cocchi over the Carpano. It makes each drink slightly less sweet with the Cocchi but the finish is much more enjoyable. In cocktails, I’d use the Carpano for special guests, Cocchi for myself, and Martini & Rossi and Rivata for everyone else ;) -
Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey — USA
Reviewed April 29, 2022 (edited May 20, 2022)Like it better than Fireball. Decent way to sweeten a cocktail if you like peanut butter. Too sweet to drink neat. -
Rolling fork El Salvador 11 yr
Aged Rum — El Salvador , El Salvador
Reviewed April 23, 2022 (edited April 25, 2022)One of the best rums I’ve had. You get the typically rum notes like molasses, banana, and a hint of coconut. The taste is butterscotch, vanilla, pineapple, and some black tea. What’s most interesting is the accompanying spice on the finish. This rum was partially aged in rye barrels. I get rye notes like all spice, cinnamon, and some pepper. No HOGO. It has a nice, woody finish. It’s well balanced and the higher proof is a bonus. I got this for $60 and feel like it’s well worth it. -
John J Bowman Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed April 19, 2022 (edited August 31, 2022)Bought a bottle while visiting Virginia last month. It’s the most fruity bourbon I’ve had. Lots of apple flavors. Reminds me of a semi-tart Apple strudel. I get similar tastes to Weller special reserve. The rye spice is apparent in the Bowman in contrast to the wheat in Weller. Decent mouthfeel with some alcohol burn. I’m really glad to have tried this. If I lived in Virginia, it’d be in regular rotation on my shelf.50.0 USD per Bottle -
It’s been a week since I tasted this at a bar, so I won’t give detailed notes. Great balance between sweet and oak. It was vanilla pudding on the initial taste with an oaky finish. One of the better bourbons I’ve had lately. There’s some lingering cinnamon spice on the plate. Overall it was pleasant experience. If I found a bottle at retail, I’d snag it.

Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed February 11, 2022 (edited April 13, 2022)My first dram of 2022. I had a dry January. This was a great way to start my whiskey tastings again. This is a caramel bomb. Deep, rich brown sugar, caramel, some baking spice on the nose. The taste had more caramel, a touch of rye spice, and a long finish akin to toasted raisin bread. This is one of the most unique rye’s I’ve ever had. -
Macallan Edition No. 5
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 25, 2021 (edited April 13, 2022)My first Macallan and was underwhelmed. Lots of bourbon notes in this scotch with some sherry sweetness. Otherwise it felt a bit flat. Luckily I mooched this from a family friend, and didn’t have to buy it to try it. I tried this coming off the heels of Johnnie Walker Green, and while not a fair comparison, I enjoyed JW Green much more than Macallan No. 5 and it only costs $60. -
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed December 18, 2021 (edited December 19, 2021)Finally! After several recommendations, I have now got around to trying Johnnie Walker Green. Short review: Sweeter and fruitier than Johnnie Walker Black. I don’t have much experience with Scotch. The cost for experimenting is high, so I often reach for a bourbon or Irish. I’m glad I grabbed this because it’s delightful at $59. The slight peat/brine notes are well balanced with the sweeter honey flavor. It’s not the most complex Scotch I’ve ever had but what’s there is enjoyable. But it’s definitely the best Johnnie Walker I’ve tasted.
