Balcones True Blue Tequila cask finish
Single Malt — Texas , USA

This is a NYC Drammers Club bottle, which seemed really unique—-Balcones True Blue matured fully in tequila cask and bottled cask strength.
At first whiff, you get the classic tequila grassy aroma. The palette is where this really comes alive . It’s deeply complex with a sweetness upfront, followed by a grassy herbal flavor. I feel as if a really robust whiskey was needed to stand up to the tequila without losing its DNA. And this Texan delivers.
Unfortunately, I don’t think this is available anywhere ( but maybe the distillery ), but if you do see it—it’s a worthwhile experience.

I'd be happy to swap some samples with you @PBMichiganWolverine :) You can find me at [email protected]
@ContemplativeFox actually, I stand corrected—-I have one 3cl sample left, saved one last pour. Let me know if you’re interested.
Alas! Thank you anyway @PBMichiganWolverine - it's mighty generous of you :)
@fomo that’s good to hear, I’m guessing they started first as experimental within the distillery only, and then expanded to selected areas
@ContemplativeFox if you had mentioned it earlier, I could’ve sent over a pour. I don’t think I have any left
@PBMichiganWolverine With respect to availability, there seem to be a few bottles floating around at the larger chains in CA. I just picked up a bottle for $55, which seems reasonable given your high marks. Thanks for the review - I might have otherwise passed on this one. Cheers.
@gabericharde Really cool that you're using tequila casks for aging as a general practice! I hope to get to sample this one day :)
@PBMichiganWolverine oh hey 👋🏻, I really dig Texas Bock. Looking forward to that Drammer’s tasting! See you there!
@gabericharde i hear you’ll be on the virtual tasting event —-I’m looking forward to that sample of the Balcones Bock. I’ve heard nothing but good things of that one.
@PBMichiganWolverine hey there! this cask was a Drammers Single Barrel pick from a stock of Blue Corn whisky that aged entirely in used Tequila casks. We actually use these casks in Baby Blue blends as spikes for acid, grassiness, and that graphite-y tequila note. However sometimes an individual cask gets so expressive and nuanced we release it into the wild through a club pick or in our tasting room. Glad you liked this one! I remember picking this one out in a blend and having my jaw drop and setting it aside.
@gabericharde btw—-you were right...this is unique
@jonwilkinson7309 I’m not sure the logic behind these once-only single cask ones. Maybe done as an experiment, and if it succeeds, will mass market? Either way—-I saved you a pour for the next package send.
Sounds fantastic! I wish that some of these distillery exclusives were more widely available.
