Hmmm. Mixed feelings.
Flavour? Big love. Big success. Caramel. Toffee. Vanilla. Spice. Bread. Pepper. Wood. A gorgeous ensemble of distinct yet integrated tastes. Powerful. Intense.
The bad. That alcohol. Wow. On the nose, the first reaction was of cleared sinuses. Then in the mouth, the burn numbed my taste buds and left a raw, stripped feeling at the back of my throat. Yet the flavours still rolled around my mouth. And this was with water.
I'm afraid 58.5 is beyond my tolerance. I would love to retain what I enjoyed at a lower abv but as it is, I won't be buying a full bottle however I am glad to have sampled this.
Approach with caution!

@Jan-Case I've definitely noticed similar things. Sometimes not even water can make the alcohol flavor go away.
Funnily enough my experience of Paul John is quite similar. The burn is there but far less ruinous. @Jan-Case
Yeah the alcohol burn sometimes confuses me a lot as well. I once had a 48 % (Glenlivet I think) that felt like I did the ghost-pepper-challenge. But 2 weeks ago I had a 64% Paul John and the wasn’t even real alcohol noticeable. I think it has to do with the stages that get to make it into the casks. Meaning how much of the middle cut is actually middle cut ;) I found a nice quote over at Waterford distillery: “The skill of the distiller is to cut out the good stuff from the bad and the ugly. The art of the accountant is to stretch it.” So I guess that is part of it.
