Having had Laphroag forced on me over and over over the past few years made me think I'd hate this one, as I've heard they're very similar. I disagree completely. While every bit as peaty/smokey as Laphroag, instead of having a foul medicinal taste it has layers of pleasant, sweet, inviting flavor underneath all that powerful smoke. Stand out flavors include dark chocolate, caramel, and even some vanilla. Finish is as long as it gets - smoke for days.

Mainly the standard Laph 10 year - I like the smokiness of it, but I absolutely hate the medicinal taste it has. I haven't found that in any of the other Islays, or any of the other heavily peated Scotches period. I really like Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Talisker, Highland Park, etc- I just honestly don't like Laphroaig.
I'm new to the Islay world.. Which were the ' other' Laphroigs that we're forced on you? :D
