Color: Golden brown, long streaky legs on the twirl - oily
Nose: Up front I get the usual baking spices, pickle brine, and cherry notes I associate with Bourbon. This is followed by sweet candied apples and raisins, along with a healthy dose of maple sugar. A really soft and delicious nose.
Palate: A watery mouthfeel with an initial burst of sweetness. Brown sugar and high fructose corn syrup, which transitions to a candied nutty note and hints of Vanilla Coke. Surprisingly hot.
Finish: The initial sugar burst fades to an oaky finish. The heat of the bourbon leads to a sharper finish, surprisingly absent of any bourbon “cinnamon spice.”
Overall: A pretty solid bourbon for the price. Not really a cherry bomb or a cinnamon apple pie, but something in between. The sweetness of the nose and palate are balanced by the oaky finish. For ~$35 you could do a lot worse than this very sippable bourbon.

@BDanner Thanks! I was in the same boat and held off on buying it. Pleasantly surprised.
Nice review. I was skeptical of this one going in, but really liked it.
@RLDN106 You're absolutely welcome; I hope they don't mislead you. I followed the same route of starting with Scotch.
@ContemplativeFox thanks for the tips, I’m starting to dabble more with bourbon after only drinking scotch. Will add the WT to the list!
@RLDN106 In my area, RR SiB costs $70-75, so I'd say it isn't worth it. A lot of people seem to be able to find it for $50-55, at which point it seems a lot more reasonable. Given that the proof is ~22% higher in the SiB as well, I'd probably pay for the upgrade to RR SiB at that price. My go-to right now is the latest Wild Turkey Rare Breed because I can somehow get it for $40 here. I'd put the WT and RR SiB a little above Eagle Rare, with a slight nod to the RR SiB because it hides its alcohol better.
@ContemplativeFox appreciate you checking back in. Haven’t tried Russell’s, but I agree that I’d take Eagle Rare over Legent (though it’s about $5 more here). Do you think Russell’s SiB is worth the extra $ over the 10?
@RLDN106 I think I get what you mean about the watery mouth feel. It's a tad light for my taste, but it isn't too bad. I get a lot of cola flavor from this, which works well with the woody spice, cherry, dried dark fruit, and vanilla. I was pleasantly surprised that I got more nuts this time than I remembered in the past. I'd take Eagle Rare and Russell's 10 in this price range, but I wouldn't be sad to spend another $35 on this.
@Whiskey_Hound appreciate it! I was surprised too, I had put off grabbing it after seeing some “good but not great” reviews. Glad I picked it up, it’s a nice pour.
@RLDN106 Solid review! You did it justice. This was a surprisingly good whiskey
@ContemplativeFox I’m not sure if my terms are in line with others, but a watery mouth feel isn’t necessarily a bad thing for me - just that it was light, as opposed to thick. In my opinion it’s only an issue if it’s too light or too thick. The high fructose corn syrup was to highlight the sweetness of the bourbon - the Angel’s Envy comparison is probably spot on (it’s very sweet to me). The Vanilla Coke connects a flavor from this (the corn syrup note included) to something I experienced in my Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. By the mid-palate I’m getting something reminiscent of a flat soda. Let me know what you think when you taste it next, I appreciate the kind words!
@ContemplativeFox The Bowman single barrel I tried was way too sweet and one-note flavor. The port finish is nice, good for the price and a fantastic bottle. I'm keeping both it and Legent for reuse, love the corks.
@RLDN106 Kind of surprised to see high fructose corn syrup and a watery mouthfeel on the palate and still a 4 star rating. I supposed the other flavors are good and strong enough to balance those aspects out? Also surprised to see any reference to Vanilla Coke, but I appreciate the degree of precision in this review - I'll need to go back to my bottle and check for those flavors!
@Zachary-Robbins Appreciate the comparison and rec. I wasn't a fan of John J Bowman, but I'll have to look for an opportunity to try Issac Bowman since I've been enjoying Legent well enough for the price.
@RLDN106 It is definitely the closer comparison to Angel's Envy and I think it's a little better, going to try to blind taste them soon.
@Zachary-Robbins I’ll take a look at that Isaac Bowman too. Thanks!
@RLDN106 I have Angel's Envy and Isaac Bowman port finish right now, the Legent definitely has a similar profile although a little more Jim Beam bourbon forward than the bourbon in the other two. Although I just got it, I'd recommend getting Legent and Bowman over Angel's Envy based on price and taste.
@Zachary-Robbins I haven’t tried Angel’s Envy yet, but heard it’s pretty sweet. Seems like it would be similar for sure."
I just bought it yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. It's an affordable alternative to Angel's Envy.
