Strong peat and brine with some grime on the nose, but also a spiced sweet fruit aroma. I’m reminded of the Main Street of a seaside fishing town in the winter. Taste starts ashy and smoky but quickly gives way to caramel, vanilla and dark fruit preserves. Surprisingly bright given how dark it starts off. Finish is sweet, dry and oaky. Lingering smoke and caramel but mainly wood.
Maybe I’m desensitized to peat but I don’t get as strong of a wallop from this as I expected to. It’s definitely strongly peated but the balance is phenomenal and it doesn’t dominate at all.
Honestly I love this stuff. I need to try more and more Islay malts but for now this one is my favorite.
