Aroma is pleasant with plenty of spice and sweet notes to pair with the oak and biscuity ones, but carries this light medicinal note that I can’t quite get around; Palate is a close duplicate of the aroma but with a bigger hit of that medicinal cherry/cough syrup note which sits evenly with the bigger oak, slight acetone, spice and sweet driven notes; Finish is my favorite aspect with the caramel-toffee-cocoa-butterscotch dark sweets note dragging through the spice and oak.

@TheWhiskeyJug Ok cool. That’s what I was hoping for. I don’t know / haven’t shopped Mixing Glass but will check them out if they’re like the others.
@Anthology I'm in SoCal as well and seeing it pop up for about $200 too. Though I'm sure some of the smaller folks like K&L, Beverage Warehouse, Hi Times, Mixing Glass, etc. will get it in closer to MSRP like they usually do.
@WhiskeyLonghorn @ContemplativeFox... $149.99 for me too!
@WhiskeyLonghorn I would read an adventure novel titled @dubz480 and the Magic Costco.
@WhiskeyLonghorn Lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have lower prices there. I have AZ marked for a road trip when things return back to “normal”
@Anthology that’s way too much. I paid $150. MSRP is $175. I bet @dubz480 and his magic Costco have it for even less.
@TheWhiskeyJug Nelson Funk Bomb. New band name called it!
@dhsilv2 @WhiskeyLonghorn @TheWhiskeyJug How much are you paying for the WT 17yr BiB in your local markets? I saw one at one my regular local retailers in SoCal for $210 when it first dropped and passed on it cos I thought I’ll get a better deal from another one of my locals. Now it’s gone and I can’t find it anywhere. The couple places I found are asking SIILLYY money for it! I suspect the pandemic impact on NA supply chain is a culprit here so I’m hoping more stock (and reasonable prices) shows up in the coming months / holidays.
@WhiskeyLonghorn I'm a WT fanatic through and through, and generallyI like Camp Nelson picks, but for my tastes I liken it to sulfur in a sherried Scotch. A little bit adds dimension and I enjoy it. Too much and it overwhelms and I can't get past it. I guess I'd call this a Nelsen funk bomb :D
@WhiskeyLonghorn Sadly, no. I haven't been seeing the Revival around anymore either and they finally seem to have sold out of Cornerstone as well. Sadly, all of my TW connections have also moved on to other places now! Nice job finding an in right there on the spot haha!
@ContemplativeFox have you found a bottle up in Seattle yet? This one is hard to find! Took me a while. I still see Revival and Cornerstone for sale around me, bit I have yet to actually see this one on shelves. I only got it because I got to talking with the cashier at Total Wine about the Whiskey Tribe and he hooked me up with the secret stash in the back.
@WhiskeyLonghorn Thanks for that explanation. I feel like I'll know it when I taste if based on your description, but I can't quite imagine it until then.
@ContemplativeFox all I know is that many Turkey fans covet picks from the Camp Nelson warehouse. Something about the placement/climate/Harry Potter magic of that warehouse imparts a flavor element into the bourbon that is unique among bourbons. Something akin to hogo in rum or the funky cheese note I get from young Port Charlotte. Some call it an umami note but I’m not sure I’d go that far. It’s divisive, and not always present on their products. I don’t pick it up on 101, RB, or RR, but the few pours I’ve had so far from this I do get that distinct note. Certainly a difficult note to place, much like on some 20+ year old scotches.
@WhiskeyLonghorn @dhsilv2 I've seen Camp Nelson funk and WT funk tossed around, but have never been quite sure what they are. Are they the same thing?
@WhiskeyLonghorn @dhsilv2 @ContemplativeFox FWIW, mine is down below the Wild Turkey name and some of the medicinal funk has disappated (I flat out hated this when freshly opened) but enough stayed that it threw me off and still does.
@WhiskeyLonghorn I'm not sure springbank but fair enough. I got mine held for me at a store thanks to some connections which is kinda unfortunate that I have these things as it feels dirty but whatever. Otherwise I'd have gotten one with points but a second with points? I dunno
@dhsilv2 I’m a fan of the Camp Nelson funk. I get that it’s not for everyone but for me it’s about as close to Springbank as bourbon gets. I hear ya on another bottle. I must have gone to every liquor store in central Texas to find this one, and even then, it was dumb luck that I found it. Maybe they’ll “accidentally find” another shipment of it around the holidays.
@WhiskeyLonghorn interesting on pages of notes. I think this is pretty darn well made all be it likely polorizing with some of the camp nelson funk. I expect we'll see some negative reviews and with good reason. I want another bottle but I don't see it happening.
@ContemplativeFox it’s opening up a lot more and getting more complex. I’m holding off on the review until I e had about a third of the bottle but so far I’ve got about two pages of tasting notes in my journal on this one. Easily the most complex Turkey I’ve tried.
@WhiskeyLonghorn Interesting. Always nice to hear how it changes a few weeks or months after the neck pour.
I too got that medicinal note in the neck pour but after being open a few weeks and getting the bottle down past the shoulder it’s gone away leaving other lovely flavors in its wake.
