Since I first had this, I've had a lot more Bourbon, and this deserves a better score than I last gave it. I drank two different bottlings (barrels) tonight and a common theme is that they are both maple-syrup forward. It's worth highlighting the differences:
The first bottle was tons of maple syrup, with dark cherry and roasted peanuts. Very smooth, but there was a slight burn/bite.
The second bottle was a local group pick: this had even more maple syrup with a smoother mouthfeel and more viscocity, ultiimately lending this a maple liqueur like quality - a beverage I've had in vermont and canada. There is muted peanut in the back end with overall less burn/bite.

@WhiskeyLonghorn It's a lot of fun researching whiskey. My only regret about this hobby is just how easily it can eat up a huge amount of disposable income.
@ContemplativeFox I spend my days reading, writing, and doing research, so it’s more of an impulse to gather information about my favorite distilleries than anything else. Fortunately whiskey is a hobby that lends itself to geeks and nerds with disposable income well!
@BeerNinjaEsq @WhiskeyLonghorn Dang, I've never gotten down to the level of which rickhouse and even floor! Thanks for the tip about rickhouse F floor 6. I might just grab a RR SiB next time I see one if it's from F. My current on wish from M, so who knows how much I've been missing out on!
@WhiskeyLonghorn yup. Rickhouse F, Floor 6 is where it's at
@BeerNinjaEsq the Camp Nelson rickhouse A and F picks are the honey barrels from Wild Turkey. A lot of the recent SiB bourbon and all the SiB rye come from this rickhouse. So did this year’s masters keep edition (which was worth every penny IMHO). There’s a great blog called Rare Bird 101 that has everything a Turkey fan would want to know.
@ContemplativeFox I have some friends who are "experts" on this brand with no less than a dozen different single barrel bottlings from different rick houses and floors. My understanding is that the stuff is pretty readily available, but there are definitely some barrels that are better than others
This is nice, smooth, enjoyable bourbon. Let's hope that it doesn't get discovered and all snatched up.
