OF 1910
APPEARANCE: All the bottlings of the Whiskey Row Series look pretty good from bottle shape to labels. Pours into the Glencairn the color of Mahogany. Viscous and Coating.
NOSE: Dark & Brooding. Perfect for the unexpected cool snap here on the NC coast. Dry and Dusty character. Burnt Brown Sugar, Burnt Vanilla, Dark Roast Coffee Beans, Charred Hickory and Oak. Just a hint of Medicinal Cherry.
NEAT: Sweet on the tip of the tongue. Toasted Marshmallow. If you taste in colors, this is solidly in the dark brown camp. Charred Hickory and Oak, French Vanilla, Black Cherry, Slightly Bitter Black Coffee. A nice warming finish with a Mild Blooming KY Hug deep in the chest. The aftertaste is sweetened Espresso.
SPLASH: A few drops of water add Charred BBQ Sauce and a Floral Quality to the Nose. Again, if you taste in colors, the palate becomes a lighter brown: Butterscotch, Toffee, and Maple along with some Black Pepper Spice.
VERDICT: Another hit from the Whiskey Row Series. I was intrigued after hearing an interview with their brand ambassador who described the second barrel that they used as "charred to the point of disintegration". I'm about 1/4 of the way through the bottle and have enjoyed every pour, but none as much as I enjoyed the last pour combined with "Fall Weather". These notes just seem to pair perfectly with cooler temps. It’s like the Peg Leg Porker I like so much turned up to 11. This leaves the lone bottle of Woodford Double Oak I've had in the dust, and for only a couple dollars more. 4 1/4 Stars from me.

@Zachary-Robbins I’d take a flyer for $30. I’ll look for a 375. Thanks for the heads up.
@BDanner They are selling 375s now for $30. I've had regular double oaked and a store pick that was similar to OF 1910, a caramel cinnamon profile that would fit into @BeppeCovfefe third category. I just liked the OF 1910 more.
@BeppeCovfefe I don't know which profile I got, but it fits none of those. I haven't reviewed it because I really don't know how to describe it. I'm 3/4's into the bottle and keep hoping it'll click. I naturally assumed that a store pick had to be better. I've hesitated to try a standard bottle due to the mid-$50's price tag.
@Guitar-mann I'm a fan of the Whiskey Row series, the 1910/1920 don't hit the "sweet' note spot the way many bourbons do, hence the "whiskey row" tag, they have the feel of drinking a man's whiskey without the "craft" approach, I like what they are but they are definitely NOT what I would choose for an every day drinker.
@BDanner There are 3 specific Woodford DO profiles being offered to stores for their "picks", I happen to have sampled all 3 of them, 1st is a distinct pear/apple "fruit tree" profile, next a very floral, hibiscus/cherry blossom note and the third is a caramel/brown sugar cinnamon bomb note. I thought they were all fantastic bourbon but the fruit tree was overwhelmed by the apple/pear sugar notes, the floral didn't carry as much of an actual flavor in your mouth feel, it was the traditional brown sugar/caramel profile that won me over, also the one my local store picked. It's not to say any one bottle will be exactly one of these 3, clearly some barrels will be of a lessor nature. I just can't fathom a "bitter" bottle of Double Oak based on how it's made but of course we are all different in view and I may just have been lucky to never have had a bad try of it.
@BeppeCovfefe maybe so? It’s a store pick and it is a bitter mess.
@BeppeCovfefe. I have to agree with you on this one Beppe. After hearing so much about this pour and chasing it a bit, I was a bit let down. I am an OF homer but this is my least favorite of the Whiskey Row series. I prefer the Jeffersons Twin Oak to the 1910 and WRDO actually.
You clearly didnt get one of the best bottles of Woodford Double Oak, if it was "left in the dust", or maybe I just got the worst bottles of Old Forester ever.
I agree, this is way better than Woodford Double Oaked
Cant agree more that this takes the nose of WR double oak, turns it up a bit and explodes on the plate where double oaked leaves me scratching my head asking “where are the delicious flavors or is my nose broken”
