A bit of a strange creature I'm drinking here. Nose and taste are very similar. The first thing I notice is apple followed by peanut butter, which melds itself a bit into a peanut butter and apple butter sandwich in a glass. There is some lingering char on the finish with an oaky astringency that remains on the tongue long after any more pleasant aspects of the finish have dissipated. I also get cinnamon and twizzlers. It initially enters the mouth round and enjoyable, but takes a harsh turn rather quickly, and I find I could do without anything in the middle finish onward.

@ContemplativeFox agreed. But some people really like a lot of oak and char. It's just not a flavor I usually love. I've noticed a similar quality in some 15 year Knob Creek Single Barrel picks. It reminds me a bit of when you steep coffee too long in over-roasted coffee or what you get when you run coffee through used grounds.
Very interesting. Good to know @BeerNinjaEsq I guess there are some bad barrels out there since I have to imagine that that flavor would be even worse in BP form.
@ContemplativeFox I've had the BP before and liked it just fine. This barrel pick became harsh in an overoaked kinda of way, with sharp ashy notes, not because of alcohol burn
I was going to ask if you'd tried the BP and recommend that if you hadn't, but since you mentioned the harshness being a problem, I suspect the BP isn't to your liking.
