Hmm. What I love about Gin is it's diversity...bit of base Juniper and then go for gold. However that does mean is you really aren't sure what exactly the concoction is going to taste like.
Now I LOVE lavender..it smells great and grows well suppressing weeds. Birds nest in the bushes we have on our property. However just because you love the smell of something doesn't mean your'll like the taste of it and man do I really NOT like drinking lavender. Needless to say this one is not for me. A good mixer can often save a gin or at least change the profile into a better one but my std go tos aren't saving this one. Roots, Method and Madness, Monkey 47, The Botanist I'd be happy with a bottle this a hard pass for me.
Update: New day, clean palate and just not for me. I'm just not a fan of floral gin unless it's got a strong Juniper, Citrus backbone. There was an irish gin with sweet berries or something....Mor it was called.....people also raved about..blarghh. I am now onto Cadrona gin....i should have read the label as I'm now getting assaulted by rosehip...#somedaysyoucantwin

@Soba45 I've never seen "Roots" gin here but I'll keep my eye out for it.
'Stop and smell the lavender' one might say @Soba45 ;)
@cascode If it's ever in Aus definitely try Roots gin. It's the only one my wife likes and I'd rate it top. Simple but very well done if you like grapefruit/juniper combo
@ContemplativeFox i love the smell of lavender, love rubbing my fingers on the buds and smelling it when i go for walks past peoples properties when it hangs over their fences. The bumblebees love it too which is great for nature. It's definitely a 'stop and smell the roses' albeit briefly thing for me :-).
@cascode I did have it after a couple of whiskies so palate maybe a bit off :-). I drank it more than once neat and mixed though. I think it could be a case that I smelt lavender and when your drinking smell aids taste and I'm attributing part of the floral component to that (partially wrongly) and it's triggering me. I'll taste again on clean palate tonight. It's definitely lavender on the nose and a bit in there though as others have noted. Stay tuned for round 2 tonight!
I'm kind of curious about this now, but mainly I want to start growing lavender :)
@Soba45 Wow! Either this has changed substantially in the 2 years since I last had a bottle, or else there is a massive difference in our palates. I tasted very little if any lavender on this, but a tonne of juniper. Does it still louce when diluted? That used to be a hallmark.
