Bourbon Breakdown: Bardstown Bourbon Co.

September 22, 2021

While Bardstown Bourbon Co. (BBCo.) has only been making whiskey since 2016, it has made quite the splash in the spirits industry. In fact, it has already increased its production from 1.5 million gallons per year to over 7 million gallons by adding an additional 50-foot still among other recent improvements. And it just added a new bottling facility earlier this year.

But BBCo. is not making all that whiskey for itself. It also does contract distilling — or as the brand prefers to say “collaborative” distilling — for over 30 customers like Jefferson’s Bourbon, High West, Belle Meade, among others. In fact, it has over 50 different mash bills recipes to use for various bourbon, rye and other whiskeys.

And while the collaborative distilling program is impressive, so too are the bourbons made under its own label. In fact, despite the fact that BBCo. is such a young brand, whiskey fans have been lining up to purchase every new release.

Below we’ve gone over BBCo.’s two main series of bourbons as well as a couple of finishing barrel collaborations. We’ve also included our Distiller’s Community Rating to help you decide on your next purchase.

Bardstown Bourbon Co. Fusion Series

The Fusion series features a blend of younger and older straight bourbon whiskeys.

What to Know:

The young bourbons are distilled by BBCo. and are aged around 3-4 years. Meanwhile the older bourbons are sourced from other distilleries and are aged around 11-13 years.

Other Bardstown Bourbon Co. Bourbons to Know:

In addition to the Fusion and Discovery Series, BBCo. has released several limited edition bourbons with unique barrel finishes in its Collaborative Series. Some of these partners include The Prisoner Wine Co.; Phifer Pavitt Wine; and Château de Laubade Armagnac among others. Typically, the finishing period will be around 18 months before bottling. Furthermore, the bourbon is on the older side, generally between 9-12 years of age making them worth checking out.
