Not quite sure what classifies the difference between "old" and "very old" but it seems to be pretty irrelevant on bourbons that carry no age statement. This is an easy drinker and easily one of the best quality to value bourbons on the market. At $15 for a 750ml, it's worth a chance. At the very least you can drink it with an old friend or if you choose to stay on theme, with a very old one.

George Dickel Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 2, 2017 (edited December 17, 2017)Need to go Memento style and start with the finish. An interesting finish that fizzles a bit too quickly for my liking. The taste: cocoa, citrus, and shiny of banana. The aroma is a complete disaster to me. Smells like a leather boot that has residual dog poop on it from when you barely grazed it 2 weeks ago. It's there. You know you'll see it if you had a microscope. And if you think about it too long before taking a swig, you just may back away. -
If you aren't used to high proof bourbon this will happen the first time you taste this: You will quickly look under your kitchen sink to double check you didn't drink the paint thinner or the rubbing alcohol. The burn is consistent from nose to taste to finish. But then something magical happens on second taste. You check the receipt again to confirm you only paid $24 for the bottle. That good feeling makes you feel like you got some sort of killer deal. You say to yourself "I know this is just Basil Hayden before it gets cut by water but this isn't even related!" By the time you finish your drink you are wondering whether the liquor store is still open so you can hoard the bottles before people catch on to this bourbon.
