Tastes

Sweet and full, though not over-poweringly so. This is a creamy, balanced whiskey. Great for every-day consumption at it's price.

Strong on the nose, but fruit and sugar will come through the acridness of the alcohol. The palate has spice, vanilla, and overall comes across very bright. Finishes hot, but a few drops of water smoothes the rough edges out.

Nice little bourbon. Sweeter than your run-of-the-mill Maker's. It's very caramelly and finishes smooth with a bit of an after burn.

My go-to mixing whiskey. Great for Kentucky Mules, coffees and other cocktails. Not bad on it's own. Affordable, balanced, and classic in it's taste. You just can't go wrong with this one.

Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweeeeeeeet. It does in a pinch, and that's about it. There are far better options if you want to mix, but it is an icon.

One of my least favorite bourbons. On the nose you start with a nice blend that is heavy with oak out of the gate but mellows into vanilla and a dash of citrus and spice. The palate is a bit rough with the heat of alcohol and oak, yet sweetens the longer it lingers in your mouth. The finish is long and harsh, which is what is the most off-putting for me.

Rough, sweet and young. This is an incredibly inexpensive whiskey though, and I find it better to cook with than to drink. I marinate and roast a chicken in this and it helps to produce a juicy, flavorful bird. Oven roast your bird with this, onions, garlic, sea salt and a dash of crushed red pepper.

This is just a dependable every day whiskey. Great for mixing, good for sipping if you add a touch of water. Reasonably priced which should make a staple for every home.

This is a simple bourbon, but at $20 it's good for its price. It's doable on the rocks but best as a part of a cocktail. If you're looking for a Four Roses to serve neat or with a touch of water you're better off to pay a little extra for the Small Batch.

Basil is like the Doc Marten's of whiskeys. Associated with rebellious folk, clean, simple, well made, and dependable. You can't go wrong with this bourbon. Your nose will detect some spice, yet it's easy to sip as it is sweet and rich on the tongue. The finish is short and warm.
