You'd never think if someone blind-folded you that this Scotch had been in a rum cask. While there is some spice, there is greater taste of plums, apples, cherries and warm caramel in the palate. A touch of oak and leather as it finishes with just a hint of the rum to compliment the other flavors. A great whiskey for it's price, and even lovelier with a few drops of water to open it up.

Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 5, 2014 (edited December 10, 2014)One of my favorite bourbons to gift as you get a lot of bang for your buck. This is a dram of clean, full bourbon. The nose picks up the sweetness of caramel, plums and oak. The palate is a soft mixture of honey, apples, and a hint of vanilla. You finish with cinnamon. It's not terribly complex, but this is a bourbon that doesn't need to be. -
Belle Meade Sour Mash Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed December 5, 2014 (edited March 31, 2018)The bill on this bourbon is heavy on the rye and it shows. The vanilla is one of the first scents you'll encounter on the nose, but it crispens with some orange in your mouth and finishes in a kick of spices that trail down your throat, leaving heat. There's also a bit of roughness at the end. This is a nice bourbon, but it just didn't wow me. -
Barterhouse 20 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 5, 2014 (edited January 25, 2016)Creamy and silky smooth. Vanilla, maple, and caramel are prominent. Cherries linger in the background with a touch of spice as the bourbon finishes on a whisp of oakey smoke. Not the most challenging of bourbons, but this is a wonderful affair to sip and enjoy at your leisure. Highly recommended as an after-dinner spirit.
