strathearn highland single malt scotch whisky
Single Malt — highland, Scotland
Reviewed July 27, 2024A bit expensive for this "first" release but really enjoying the flavors. Honey with saltine crackers plus something unique too that I can't quite put my finger on, that definitely works (is this the Maris Otter Malt?). Very excited to see what they bring in the future!108.0 USD per Bottle -

West Cork Glengarriff Series Bog Oak Charred Cask Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed May 20, 2023Very odd nose - slight soy sauce or hint of vinegar? No sweetness at all and thankfully nose doesn't translate to the palate... Palate has some sweetness and little else but easy to drink. -
Received a sample of this one. Really like the nose on this one as it has a maple syrup/pancake syrup note which continues into the palate. An easy drinker with creamy sweetness, but not too sweet. I think $45 is a good value for this one and like that it doesn't come across as thin as most Irish whiskey I have tried.

GlenAllachie 4 Year Peated Single Malt (Billy Walker 50th Anniversary Future Edition)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 30, 2023 (edited July 27, 2024)This definitely needs, and can take a lot of water. I have no problem drinking higher, cask strength whiskies but occasionally run across one that really only shines with water. Nose has smoke and red fruits and neat it is just very rough and youthful. Took a second adding of water and then it rounded/smoothed out with much better integration of smoke and juicy re fruits and hint of savory note. Worth taking time with this one 👍 -
