Jefferson's Very Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2015 (edited October 22, 2019)Surprised by the light color since this is an 8 Year Bourbon. Nose is not complex, but nice. Toasted marshmallow. Enters mildly sweet. Slight citrus with a pleasant oaky aftertaste with a little tingling peppery spice. Hints of tobacco and dried apricot. Mild and smooth. Easy drinking. Would be a great beginners bourbon. Ice smooths it out way too much. Goes from a sipper to a gulper (which could be dangerous). I definitely recommend this one Neat. -
Evan Williams Green Label
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2015 (edited November 20, 2023)Worst bourbon I've ever had. Sour, funky oak on entry and finish. I know it's about $10, but for that price or less, you can get Henry McKenna or Heaven Hills Old Style (both from the same distillery) and get a much better pour. -
Old Grand-Dad Bonded Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2015 (edited November 20, 2023)Great value. Sweet with a tingly note of cinnamon candy. A hint of dry roasted peanuts and citrus on the finish. I like the new packaging upgrade with the fake cork, but not the price increase that came with it. Still a lot of bang for the buck in a bonded whiskey.25.0 USD per Bottle -
Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2015 (edited November 20, 2023)Great rye. BOLD. Enters sweet with a mid palate jolt of rye/cinnamon spice. Barrel comes through on the finish. Stands up to ice. Makes a fine old fashioned. 4 stars for the actual juice, and 1 star for being $12-$15 less than Bulliet or Templeton in my area. I like Most of Heaven Hills offerings.26.0 USD per Bottle -
Bernheim 7 Year Original Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2015 (edited June 1, 2020)Honey butter sweet in taste and texture. A little peppery spice on the finish. Little to no barrel char or funk. Drink this one neat, ice kills it. -
Henry McKenna Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2015 (edited June 1, 2020)Not a bad bottom shelf pour. I actually find this more palatable than Heaven Hills' Evan Williams Green or Black label. Not complex and heavy on the char but there are no objectionable notes here. For around $10 it's a decent pour. -
Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 11, 2015 (edited June 1, 2020)May need to try another bottle based on the good reviews I see of this all over google land. Mine may have come from an "off" barrel. It was like someone made a recipe with the right ingredients without paying attention to measurements if that makes sense. It was all over the place with nothing in balance.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Great bourbon. Everything I like in a bourbon. Caramel sweet nose. Cinnamon candy tingle. Oak char finish. BEWARE, though! They've dropped the 12 Year from the name. It's now simply Elijah Craig Small Batch with the 12 year age statement moved to the back label. My guess is it will soon disappear from the back label as well.
