Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Style Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2021 (edited July 30, 2021)Not really a great rye and not really a great Jim Beam, this was not what I was expecting, but in its own right it is a decent whisky. Cinnamon spice and oak are very dominant. I like to let this one breathe. This Prohibition style rye is not like anything I’ve tasted before, it is sweet and smooth but at the same time there is depth and potency. I might buy again but not as a rye substitute, because the limited amount of actual rye in this is very noticeable when comparing to an actual Canadian rye whisky -
No age statement on one of their most expensive bottlings always had me curious. I’m not great at describing tastes but this did not surprise me in any way, and although it had a good smooth palate and pleasant nose their was nothing great or exceptional about it. My advise would be unless you’re a millionaire or have plenty of cash to burn there is no real reason to buy this, you’re not missing a whole lot
