Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage 2013
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 12, 2022 (edited October 15, 2022)Molasses on the nose, as well as slight alcohol; Sweet palate with apple and some spices. Slight burn going down, but nothing too bad; short finish. Overall, a good bourbon at this price. Reminds me a little of the EW 1783, if my memory serves. My bottle's info: Barrelled on 12/20/13 Barrell # 159 Bottled on 1/28/21 10/15/22: I feel it important to add to my taste: I just finished my last bottle of EW SB.... I followed up with some Blanton's. I'll be damned if it's not as good as the latter!29.0 USD per Bottle -
Four Roses Small Batch Select Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 4, 2022 (edited June 16, 2022)Bought the little sample bottle shown in my pic before committing to a full 750 ml. bottle. Good thing... This is a good bourbon. It's got a nice complexity to it. It tastes "elevated" to me. BUT... it's not destined to be a top shelf bottle. I was not aware, until recently, that Four Roses is a high rye bourbon — and high rye ain't my thing. Too spicy for me. I like sweeter wheated bourbon — bourbon with a smaller rye % at the very least. 3.0 for being "good". Just not for me. -
Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon
Bourbon — Texas, USA
Reviewed June 4, 2022 (edited February 18, 2023)This stuff is just not very good at all. That's why I bought a small sample bottle and not a full-size 750 ml. bottle... I just didn't trust it enough. Hint of cinnamon on the nose, but too much emphasis on the burn with not much flavor — aside from a strange medicinal flavor that reminded me of something I was given in my childhood. I love bourbon, and I try and appreciate what all distilleries have to offer. But this is just not good. Too young at a 2-year age statement, perhaps. -
This was an unexpected purchase, and sometimes, it's good to be spontaneous. This is decent bourbon. It doesn't stand out to me in any particular way, but it's good.... Ripe cherries and vanilla on the nose; sweet on the palate with apples and spices — slight burn going down, but nothing too severe; finish is medium with oak and lingering spice... even a little peanut! Will I buy again? Perhaps. But at the moment, there are too many other bottles I want to try before I even have the inclination.55.0 USD per BottleBevMo!

I received a little bottle of this Scotch Whiskey in my Christmas stocking last year. Finally got around to giving it a try... It pretty much confirms that I am a bourbon drinker, and don't care much for Scotch — though I've had some that I actually enjoyed (McCallan 12, and Glenfiddich 15). This one just tastes to me like drinking a stale cigar butt that I found in a musty basement.

Right off the bat, I got big molasses on the nose; Sweet, rich and oily on the palate; Oak on the finish. Very smooth and easy sipper. Added 11/19/22: Like many bourbons, tastes evolve over time and subsequent pours. I'm getting lots of cinnamon and pepper on the palate tonight. Nice! Purchased another bottle. Added 7/14/23: Big dose of cherry cough syrup on the palate tonight.

This bottle intrigued me when I spied it on the shelf of my local grocery store. Upon reading the expert review here, I deemed it worth a try... Raisin, dates, vanilla on the nose... some initial burn (it is 115 proof, after all), apples, spice and more vanilla on the palate... and a spicy finish. This is good. It reminds me a little of Old Tub — which I like very much. Will I buy again? Maybe. But not before I try a bunch of others I've got my sights on.56.0 USD per Bottle

Had this a year and a half or so ago, and I don't think I had a strong enough opinion on it at the time. Last night, while out with friends, I ordered some because they were out of Angel's Envy. I can now honestly say, this is not a favorite. Too spicy and "thin" on the palate. I see it's a "high rye" bourbon, and that would explain it. I don't like those. I prefer sweet, rich and vanilla. 2.5 for not being awful — but just not my thing. Added 8/31/23: My palate is ever-changing and developing. I'm at a hotel bar tonight, and one of the few bourbons they have available is Bulleit... one of the very first bourbons I tried — so I really had no context to put it up against. Moreover, I used to think I did not like bigh rye bourbons. I was wrong about that. I actually like rye very much, I came to realize. This Bulleit is good. It's spicy and a bit smoky — which I like. I also got some nice "licorice" on the finish tonight. Worth an upgrade from 2.5 to 3.0.

Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 30, 2022 (edited May 17, 2022)Took me a while to find, but the wait was worth it. Very smooth, and sweet as I'd expect from a wheated. Caramel and toffee on the nose; more of the same, plus some oak and a little smoky tobacco, on the palate; slightly spicy finish. I knew I'd love this bourbon. Will buy again when the opportunity arises.27.0 USD per BottlePavilions
