Old Forester 1897 Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 19, 2022 (edited April 25, 2022)Smooth, Sweet, Cherries, Spices. Was torn between this one and the much higher-proof 1920. Glad I went this route. This could be a go-to once I'm done trying all the bottles I want to.58.0 USD per BottlePavilions -
Peaches at first, spicy heat with a preponderance of alcohol follows. The more I sip, the more I taste. Walnuts and sweet woodiness. Very creamy, as I've seen in others' reviews, which makes for a pleasing sipping experience. Not sure if this will become a go-to. But it's got potential... especially since some bourbons tend to open up and transform the closer I get to the bottom of the bottle.

Smooth Ambler Big Level Wheated Bourbon
Bourbon — West Virginia, USA
Reviewed January 29, 2022 (edited August 7, 2022)Cinnamon and apples! Very spicy on the nose and palate. I get the "cherry cola" the expert review mentions. A little ice really helps reveal it. Not sure why this is getting so many 1 and 2 stars here. To each their own, I guess. But don't let the bad reviews deter you. This is good stuff. Strong at 100 proof. Stronger than some higher proofs I've had.59.0 USD per Bottle -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2020-03 "Pigskin Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 9, 2022 (edited July 25, 2022)At 127 proof, this stuff is the strongest bottle I've ever had. Burns a bit going down. Definitely needs an ice cube to rein in the heat. Very complex. Hard to discern every nuance. I'm almost done with my bottle, and I don't see any need to search for another. Like a brief, torrid affair with a very hot girl. LOL. -
Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 2, 2022 (edited January 7, 2022)I don't often get an, "Oh, wow!" from my first sip of a new bourbon... But I got it from this one! Smoke; Dark Cherries/Black Forest Cake; Butter; Wood; Spice. Excellent. It's already earned "go-to" status from me. Added 4/5/22: I'm wondering if this happens to anyone else: My original taste knocked me out, as you can see from my original post above. However, upon subsequent pours, this fell out of favor with me. It even finished dead last — out of 6 bottles, including a few cheaper ones — in a blind taste test. Strange 3/13/23: I think I may need to grab another bottle soon — to see what I get from it the 2nd time around. -
