Garrison Brothers Balmorhea Texas Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Texas, USA
Reviewed August 1, 2020 (edited February 10, 2021)I really enjoyed this one. It has a strong smell, I get chocolate and coffee on the taste, and as others have said a really long cinnomony finish. I bought a couple 2oz samples, but I'm not sure I'll fork out the big bucks for a full bottle. But definitely good stuff. -
Trader Joe's Kentucky Bourbon Straight Whiskey
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 24, 2020 (edited November 24, 2021)At first taste I thought I was going to be pleasantly surprised by this. But as it progressed it was awful with an ethanol finish. Guess the rest of the bottle will be used for cooking. -
Elijah Craig 18 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 8, 2020 (edited June 29, 2020)I get oak and leather on the nose. Vanilla, caramel, and spice on the finish. Very good and easy drinking, but to be honest, not as good as I was hoping it would be given it is 3-4x as expensive as the others in this flight (ER10yr, McKenna 10yr, Ezra B 12yr).160.0 USD per Bottle -
Like the McKenna 10yr I get a lot of alcohol on the nose, also some oak. This is the smoothest of the flight so far (ER10yr, McKenna 10yr before this). I wasn't sure how to describe the finish so I turned to the professional reviews. And I think I agree with a cinnamon and nutmeg finish, but it turns to a menthol towards the end which is a negative for me.

Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 8, 2020 (edited May 12, 2020)Unlike the nose on the ER 10yr, all I smell on this one is ethanol and maybe a little spice. Initial taste is toffee and spice, with bananas and cinnamon on the finish. I also get the menthol that the professional reviews call out, although I never would've thought of that on my own. Also, a nice long finish, similar to the ER. Definitely tastes way better than it smells. But the menthol takes over the finish after a bit so ranking this lower than the ER 10yr. -
I definitely get the leather and a long, spicy finish. I normally steer clear of spicy, but I really like this. There's a lot going on with this. It's freaky one sip can have three different stages, but I get three very distinct flavors with this initially, on the tongue, and then the finish. One odd thing I've noticed both times I've tasted now though is that it leaves me throat feeling a bit raw, which other bourbons haven't done.
