Tastes

I don't love rye whiskey. I really don't. But when I need a rye whiskey, this is my go to. It's budget friendly and spicy yet sweet. Straight Werther's caramel candy at the nose. Candied waffles at the taste like french toast sticks. An agave taste like wood lime and salt. Take that description for what you will. This is my review. I'd garnish this whiskey with cherry to balance things out.

Citrus peels, honey, cheerios, so much vanilla on the nose. The taste is excellent. Brown sugar, toast, black pepper, an unparalleled sweetness. Finish is medium to long with hints of leather. I've had a lot of great old fashioneds. This one is my favorite.

My second rye whiskey and not great. Bought a pint for $20 and figured if anything I'll keep the bottle for reuse. The taste is good with wood and nutty notes. There's a weird saltiness like hay. Finish is short and cool. Tastes young because it is young.

Before I knew anything about whiskey I used this for my go to bourbon in my home bar. After having the other Weller's, there's no comparison. But that's not to say it's a bad budget wheat.

Cereal grain, caramel, and homemade french toast on the nose. A great sipping whiskey. A peachy sweetness on the taste and a citrus mouthfeel. Molasses finish. A good buy for a whiskey aged in used oak and you're looking for something different than the standard bourbon.
