Laphroaig An Cuan Mór
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 18, 2016 (edited March 1, 2021)One of the best whiskies I tried all year. Briney, peppery nose, some great spice and licorice on the palate. It doesn't the lose the classic Laphroaig peatiness, but so much else is accentuated. Brilliant dram. -
Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2009
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 6, 2016 (edited December 5, 2019)Love this. Great to see a large distillery focus so much on the grains being used and allowing the natural malt flavor to be the star here. Extremely well executed. -
Fantastic stuff. At nearly 5 years old (58 months), this cask strength whiskey is mellower than I expected for almost 55% ABV. Strong presence of dark sugar and raisins on the nose, with a warm, rich palate that shows off a fudgy sweetness and notes of caramel, oak, and baking spices. I'm thankful I live in Seattle so I can snatch a bottle (or 3).
