Really enjoyable whisky. Nose: opened the bottle and immediately got hit with a ton of oak. A very compex oak though. Smells a bit maple-y too. Maybe even more than it tastes. Like walking through a sugar bush. Taste: oak, maple, caramel, full, mellow, smooth, yet robust. Bit of leather and tobacco too. Lingers well, and actually has a really long finish. There's also a very distinct cherry taste on the tip of the tongue. Color: deep, dark caramel from the additional 9 months of aging. Value: not cheap nor expensive. Good value for around 60 bucks. Overall: 8/10

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 22, 2024 (edited August 5, 2024)I wanted to try a njcer bourbom than Bulleit, and took a gamble with Wild Turkey Rare Breed. It paid off. Taste - as soon as i opened it and took a taste it felt like the finest of maple candy or brown sugar hitting my palette, but with less sweetness. There's a little vanilla and you can taste the corn mash in the background. This is a beautiful bourbon and my new favorite dessert drink. Also strong on the palette is oak and spice with a nice long finish. Color - beautiful brown sugar. Nose - Matches the drink but with more floral notes. Value - eh it isn't exactly cheap nor is it expensive. But it is very good and i want this on my shelf. Overall 8.5/10 One of my first really good bourbons (i used to drink too much jim beam, jack, and makers in college) -
Nose - Smoke, little medicinal. Can smell the oak a little. Matches the taste nicely. Color - fairly light considering it is 40% Taste - Malty, smoke is less intense than on nose, mid finish is weak, and then lingers for quite a while. Some spice on the early mid palette to mid-late palette. Doesn't coat your tongue with peat, but whispers to it a bit. Appreciate that there is very little sweetness in this whisky and leans towards being briney instead. Like a sea breeze on the shores of Scotland when the sun refuses to but peek its head out past the clouds that move quickly and are low lying. Mouth feel - Slightly astringent. Little spicy. Overall a really lovely whisky for the price that hits a lot of what i look for in a more peaty whisky. I much prefer the medicinal tastes to some of the bbq like smoke you'll get at times. More complex than i would have thought for a 10 year. I dig this whisky, and am excited to explore more than my ant sized bottle.
