Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2019 (edited December 18, 2019)Had this at the distillery and was even able to get my bottle signed by Jimmy Russell! That’s not the only reason I bought the bottle though. This is VERY smooth for the ABV. I would definitely say it is hot but not harsh at all. Loved the flavors in this one! -
Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2019Had it at the distillery. Very smooth and flavorful but have had too many others today truly do a good detailed tasting -
Right off the bat, this is noticeably darker than most bourbons. I can’t decide if I like the nose, palate, or finish best as they are all outstanding. More traditional notes of vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar are in full force but I get with it a medicinal cherry. Every whiff and every sip adds to the experience and constantly finding another reason to love this bourbon. Complex and super smooth, I will try to have a bottle on hand at all times for my collection. I might add that I think both a newcomer or connoisseur to bourbon would both appreciate this.

Finally got my hands on a bottle for my collection. My honest opinion is that it is good but not great. I feel like this may be over-hyped due to the name and difficulty to find. The first time I tried it I didn’t write a review because I thought I was missing something. Second time around and I figured I would share my opinion. The flavors are there and I have to agree with other reviews as far as what notes they get but I feel like they are all muted by the heat and I really have to search for them. I’ve tried it both neat and with water added in a glencairn and tried letting it rest and feel it just missed the mark for me. I usually prefer barrel/cask strengths so I am a bit disappointed but who knows maybe the 3rd try will be the charm.

It may sound strange but I can’t quite put my finger on the nose. To me it is like a very sweet ethanol, not at all unpleasant, almost like a sweet candy. I may be dating myself but for a second I thought of the old pink chocolate filled “chicken bones” candy growing up. The body was light and smooth and the finish was like I just took a whiff of a fall potpourri and all the spices that go with it. Overall very enjoyable and something I feel is perfect for a crisp fall night up here in New England.
