Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Chocolate Malted Rye Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 18, 2019Very interesting. Would put as an example of unique, high quality American whiskey. Rivaling equally-priced options from Scotland. -
Green Spot Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed December 16, 2019 (edited May 2, 2020)Fine example of what simple barley, water, yeast, and barrel can achieve. Green Spot should be the standard-bearer for Irish whiskeys over $30. -
Old Charter Oak French Oak (2019 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 12, 2019 (edited December 23, 2020)The nose is hot like a barrel proof but the mouthfeel...I hate to use the term “smooth”, it’s like warm butter. Fatty and rich. When you get past the heat, the nose is graham cracker and a spice rack. The palate makes it clear this didn’t just sit in a charred American barrel. Highly enjoyable on itts own. Don’t have with a cigar. Just drink it and enjoy the spirit. -
James E. Pepper 1776 Barrel Proof Straight Rye
Rye — Indiana (Bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed December 12, 2019 (edited May 3, 2020)Intense barrel sugars on the nose. Beautiful dark amber color. Fatty mouthfeel followed immediately by fiery proof. No hiding the barrel strength. Balanced rye character on par with Woodford Rye.
