Rating: 14/23 This is more floral and less traditional tasting than Regent. It's balanced and delicate, though the sweetness can be a bit much and exacerbate some element of 5he alcohol flavor a tad, making it taste just the slightest fraction like Dial dish soap. I still generally like this and I would say that it's better than the Esmé vodka, but I'm not sure I like it as much as before. Still, it's pretty enjoyable, though a very situational gin. Green house gin is far more fruity and floral, with lots of green apple coming through rather than just tasting like roses, making it more opinionated and therefore perhaps less versatile but more suited to specific fruity gin drinks. Green house is smoother with a more mature sweetness and subtle fruitiness to it. It's very sweet, but it does a good job of executing the fruity floral gin profile. I think I'd take it over Esmé.23.0 USD per Bottle

Rating: 16/23 Green house gin is far more fruity and floral than even Esmé, with lots of green apple coming through rather than just tasting like roses, making it more opinionated and therefore perhaps less versatile but more suited to specific fruity gin drinks. Green house is smoother with a more mature sweetness and subtle fruitiness to it. It's very sweet, but it does a good job of executing the fruity floral gin profile. I think I'd take it over Esmé. I do wish that it were bottled at a slightly higher proof though and the price is on the high side. The other obvious comparison is Nolet's. Nolet's really doubles down on this flavor profile. Nolet's shifts more toward the floral end of the spectrum, adds a bit more botanicals presence (including a little more pine) and kicks up the proof, producing a fuller, sharper gin. I prefer Nolet's a tad, but this is quite good.25.0 USD per Bottle

Rating: 12/23 I don't know quite what to make of this. It's weirdly oily with some bitterness and sweetness that do remind me of honey. It also has some clean pepper - both black and white. And it's backed by a pretty neutral spirit. It definitely isn't objectionable, but I'm really not clear on what the point is here. I am getting more sweetness now than I did on my last tasting, but it's far from overwhelming. This is probably just the right touch of light sweetness. There's a light floral flavor too and a waft of almond. I think I seriously underrated this before. It's far from amazing and I still don't understand it, but it has a few components that are well-executed and the whole thing fits together fairly well. I'll save a tad for one final taste to sort this out.15.0 USD per Bottle

Wild Turkey American Honey
Other Liqueurs — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 28, 2020 (edited October 27, 2020)Rating: 14/23 This is sweeter and richer than Yukon Jack with more orange to its citrus and less harshness as well as more floral and mineral complexity. In short: this is a hell of a lot better. There's a hint of tangerine and maybe I get some richness was from the honey that can convince me it isn't just whiskey with some sort of sweetened. The thing is though that I actually don't care which it is. This is marketed as a honey liqueur, but I consider Sheep Dog to be the best of the peanut butter whiskeys I've tried (yes, I've been sampling peanut butter whiskey, but it's all so that you don't have to) and it barely tastes like peanut butter. This is surprisingly drinkable. I was wrong if I ever said that Yukon Jack was a good substitute for Cointreau (though if you're desperate, I will stand by it as a passable one), but for a drink with just a dash of Cointreau, I'd say that this is closer than Grand Marnier. This has a richer palate than Cointreau that is also smoother and barely sweeter. There's less complexity here but the bourbon adds some interesting dimension. If you desperately need specifically that orange flavor, this won't cut it. If some general sweetness and richness with some citrus and a little bit of a kick will do, this is half the price and really surprisingly good. I can't say that this is as good as either Grand Marnier or Cointreau, but given its smoothness I actually don't think it's too far afield. I do wish that this were a hair less sweet for sure, but I'd probabaly compensate in a mixed drink by using a little less of this and a little more lemon or lime juice. This is in no way what I expected from this liqueur, but I like it better than I expected. Really a weird but good find. I'm not sure I stand by this being closer to Cointreau than Grand Marnier is, but they're in the same ballpark. Really, it's a weirdly good find.16.5 USD per Bottle -
Rating: 6/23 This has a really orangey-pink color. Quite unique. Obviously artificial. I'm cool with that. It smells just like Jell-O or perhaps gummy candies. In down for both of those, but in my liqueur? We'll see. It does smell elegant and good in sort of a high schooler TV pit way though. The palate is sweet with some very floral fruitiness and a lot of artificial/industrial flavor. It's very sweet but also very light. It's gross. I can't quite place the flavor of fruit. It's sweet and fruity I guess, but not awesome. In fact, it sucks. It tastes super gross and artificial. I'd really like to not drink this. I do like the sweetness and floral fruity flavors (perhaps peach and some strawberry?), but this tastes quite a lot like alcohol and painfully artificial. It isn't a total failure and I would rate it higher than plenty of flavored vodkas. There is some richness here, but nothing I would identify as whiskey. The aftertaste has this metallic bitterness. Yuck! I'd rate this worse than Veil Caramel and Veil Double Espresso but a clear margin. Those two aren't that similar, but they're the only flavored vodkas I have on hand.7.0 USD per Bottle

Rating: 9/23 Oh, right, this is the one with two entries on distiller. That doesn't matter for this tasting, but I thought I'd lament that fact to spare myself from trying this for a little longer. It's quite harsh and there ain't much richness or depth, but there's sweetness and citrus. Cointreau immediately comes to mind, but I think I actually already compared them side by side and found that Cointreau was better in every way. I think this time I can detect a bit of honey since there is some bitterness mixed in. Perhaps that's what I've been attributing to citron and/or lime so far. If it is, that's 20% my bad and 80% something that should have been identified as a risk before sending this product to market. I really wish that something here tasted like whiskey. I mean, it has Jack in the name, but there's actually no indication of whether it's made from whiskey at all. I definitely suspect vodka. It's not awful, but not very good either. I'm going to make a boring call and maintain my previous rating. The long finish definitely has something artificial to it, so I might bump it down next time.14.0 USD per Bottle

Rating: 7/23 I do get a sweet wripped cream scent from it, though it isn't overpowering. The palate tastes immediately like cotton candy. Then some bitterness comes in, suggesting artificial sweetener and alcohol. It tastes bad, sort of like sugar free bubble gum. It has a modest mouthfeel with some viscosity that tells like it was achieved by mixing some sugar water in. It tastes totally artificial and it's hard to figure out what to mix with it. There's the origins of vanilla in here sometimes, but overall it's its own gross, bad thing. This is pretty equivalent to pear. The nose is vanilla, but a bit on the cream soda side. It smells really sweet. It tastes kind of like cream soda jelly bellies. It's super sweet with just enough cream soda richness. It does a good job of executing cream soda with alcohol. There's a bit of metal and rubber from the alcohol, but it's nothing too bad. Overall, this is one of the better Veil flavored vodkas. It definitely is better than a 5. The alcohol definitely does start showing through and it brings in a tad of s soapy taste, but it's nothing too bad. This is better than the citron one, but maybe not as good as peach. There's ultimately just enough off to keep it below tbe quality of the peach, but it's pretty close. The soap is the deciding factor. 8 seems reasonable. I might drop it to a 7 based on the soap. 7 to 8. Sadly, I think I'm going to drop the score to a 7. It's hard to figure out what to do with this, but it is one of the better Veil offerings.12.0 USD per Bottle

Rating: 1/23 The nose has crisp green apple, but more like the fruit than that sweet, sour, punchy green apple candy. The bitterness comes across as apple peel and works really nicely here. There's some earthiness with a little bit of mushroom on the nose that doesn't quite fit with the whole green apple thing, but it does have a natural scent that works well with the other smells. The palate is very tart with a lot more earthiness, sulfur, and umami than expected. It tastes frankly awful. After such an interesting nose that I praised for several good qualities, the palate tosses those out and becomes a gag-inducing mess. It has some earthy bitterness that reminds me sort of of green apple peel and it also has some tartness mixed with sweetness that gives off s bit of a similar vibe. The overall flavor though is disgusting. This is a bit worse than the raspberry veil, though the two are very close. This just doesn't have any nice core to fall back on. This is the most undrinkable liqueur I think I have ever encountered. Bottom marks all the way. No exaggeration. It's also super drying. In just the right cocktail, a dash of this might work. Otherwise, avoid it at all costs. It does remind me of green apples more on the finish, but it's a miserable experience overall. The nose smells more like green apple skins and seeds than actual green apple. Sort of like they're composting. Oh dear lord, what a terrible palate! It's so sour like the worst part of green apple with an oiliness from the seeds without any of the good qualities. It's so weird and gross. There's some random sweetness in here like somebody dissolved green apple jolly ranchers in here. There's some mushroom flavor in here too that does go with the apple seed flavor, but it also is gross and not suited to this alleged green apple drink. Ugh, the flavor is just so bad throughout. At least there's a full flavor with some clear element of green apple, but it starts weak and it just gets work. This might warrant a 2, but it's definitely in the 1 to 2 range.12.0 USD per Bottle
