This is one of the most well balanced Bourbons I have ever had the pleasure of sampling. Ithe nose reminds me of an old barn full of dry hay and horse blankets. There is a definite spice on the palate. But it is tempered by a bitterness and a cleanliness in the finish. This is a grand whiskey. I tip my hat to Elmer T Lee.

Talisker Port Ruighe
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed October 13, 2015 (edited May 29, 2016)Interesting. You get a note of the talisker smoke and that dusty pepper finish. From the port cask there is a lot of deep red flavors like cherry or cooked pomegranate. I dro of water opens up the flavor profile and you start to pick up on the oak and there is a pleasant char flavor. The whole impression is like the edges of a cherry pie where the filling gets slightly burnt. -
Acrid and sharp. The oak is strong and I heartily disagree with the review on here. The smoke is so strong that it doesn't lay like the regular laphroaig. It is bitter and the density of the peat doesn't make itself apparent until you add a drop of water. Peat becomes mellowed over time but the quarter cask allows the oak to reach its peak faster without waiting for 10 years to mature. A drop of water improves this whiskk immensely.
