TBH, I had this right after a jamacain rum which may have ruined my taste buds. Nose: Peat, melon (cantaloupe?), candied something (bacon maybe?), and VANILLA Palette: Sweet peat. Honey & minor spice. Vanilla & a dash of salt. Finish: Sweet honey notes linger. And the peat. Overall, it’s a little thin to me & isn’t overly complex. It reminds me a bit of a Lagavulin (in a good way).74.0 USD per BottleHaskell's White Bear Lake

Swift Single Malt Texas Whiskey
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed August 6, 2022 (edited September 24, 2022)Sweet and well-balanced, albeit a bit thin. I’m pleased with the product & can’t wait to see what else comes out of this distillery. Nose: Light, sweet, apricots, lots of rubbing alcohol. Taste: Sweet like a tootsie roll. That’s what this. The sherry is nice & lingers, but I can’t get over how much of a tootsie roll I taste. There’s oakey vanilla in here, too. Finish: Dissipates and the chocolate lingers like…a tootsie roll. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t melt down a bunch of tootsie rolls and throw them in this.Total Wine & More -
Tomintoul 12 Year Portwood Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 25, 2022 (edited October 23, 2022)Nose: Pure whisky, vanilla, raspberry. Palate: Honey, vanilla, strawberry shortcake. Finish: Honey lingers and dissolves to slight smokiness. Verdict: Despite the rating, I’ve enjoyed taking my time through this bottle. The port finish so subtle that it doesn’t overpower & keeps the vanilla/bourbon characteristics that I love. Likely wouldn’t buy it again but am not disappointed that I did.74.0 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More -
Nose: Honey and vanilla, fruits and nuttiness. Palate: More honey on the tip of the tongue. Sweet brioche, hazelnut, and dried fruits. Raisins, vanilla, and a splash of cinnamon. Finish: Sweet spice & vanilla. It’s warming & comforting. Conclusion: Perfect for a summer evening, or really any occasion. This whisky was my first love & I’ll keep it on my shelf as long as they keep making it. Bless you, David Stewart.

Kirkland Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed July 17, 2022 (edited June 30, 2023)Super pleased with this, considering it was $40. I have had better peated scotches and this tastes young-ish. My guess is it’s a Caol Ila blend of primarily younger casks with some older ones to help mellow it out & give it . For $40, this is a steal. Again, the value is there l, but considering I’m not a huge peat guy, I would only buy this again if I’m hunting for a bargain peated scotch. Nose: Classic peat & brine. Smells like I’m next to a fire on the coast of Islay itself. Taste: Sweet and peat. The smoke is very evident and it’s slightly hot. It’s briney and has a slightly medicinal flavor. Despite the smoke, I get almost no tobacco. The sweetness is a white fruit like a pear or white peach. Finish: Smoke fades to the background as the white fruit takes over. Very pleasant. 5 minutes later, the peat is what lingers, transporting me to an Islay campfire.40.0 USD per BottleCostco Wholesale
