My first travel into Islay was not a great one but I decided to take another stab at it and ordered this dram at a steakhouse before my meal. The nose was exactly what I was expecting.. Peat smoke.. Medicinal as all get out.. and band-aid. But I wasn't turned off nor did I turn away. In fact much like a car wreck I couldn't turn away! The palate exploded with smoke.. Then fresh black pepper with a bit of leather.. And then of all things cinnamon!! The finish was long .. dominated by an earthy smoke with some sweetness. I have purchased 2 bottles of this since that first dram and believe I have found an ever present companion for some time to come. Changed my tune completely on Islay malts as a result of this scotch.

Glenmorangie The Original 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 6, 2015 (edited December 13, 2015)Holy Candy and a Current Bun this whisky is sweet with some tang! On the nose there was a bit of carmel, and fruit. However on the palate it was an explosion of citrus, light fruit, and more citrus. The finish happens quick and leaves me wanting more with a hint of green apple. This is my first Glenmorangie and just might become my latest every day dram! IMHO a good scotch for a great price (45.00 US) -
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 22, 2015 (edited November 23, 2015)It's fruity.. It's sweet.. It's not too bad for the price. I wouldn't run to it, but I wouldn't run away either. If your on the fence.. Give it a shot! -
This was my first stab at a Islay malt. Maybe its me, maybe I'm too Speyside but I was not pleased with this. Both the nose and the palate were full of band-aid and just overall medicinal with a slight salty taste. I bought a bottle so I'll give it a shot again, but I'm heading back towards the highlands for now.
