1. Lagavulin 16 Year

Peated Single Malt — Islay, Scotland

    4.0 out of 5 stars
$30 on Kauia (sale). It's good, much better than the overly-dry prior versions I've had. Definetly worth $50 but it isn't Laphroaig. Not worth $100. Laphy-taphy CS reigns supreme until they spit out some more of this from the Whitehorse heyday.
  2. CimarrĂ³n Blanco Tequila

Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico

    5.0 out of 5 stars
This is the gold standard of blancos. Straight. Up. Gold. I don't know how they do it where others fail, but this is legit. If you dig the style then this easily beats Clooney tequila and other ultra-premiums while barely breaking a sweat. Boss.
  3. Mayalen Agua de Juventud Guerrero Mezcal

Mezcal Joven — Guerrero , Mexico

    2.0 out of 5 stars
The real question posed by this mezcal is this: do you know good mezcal or is mezcal an exotic catch-all term for anything distilled in Mexico from something you would describe as a cactus but is not, in fact, a cactus? Look, y'all you can spend fifty bucks on something and that makes it worth fifty bucks . . . but that don't mean its worth fifty bucks. Did they extend fermentation to increase ester formation? Newp. Smoke? Zero. Bonus points for high proof and weighty moutfeel. Worth your dime if your a silicon-valley techbro with more cash than taste. If you're a normal person, avoid. Just like you should avoid most mezcal.
