My entry into the world of peat. I keep a bottle of this in my bar most all the time. It's like an old friend. I've tried most of the popular peaty offerings from various distillers -this thing can keep up with the best of them in my opinion. I remember my very first experience with this one -I didn't understand how on earth anyone could like this, but I kept at it. It evolved into something more interesting each time I sat down with it. I do get all the salt, brine, smoke and medicinal flavors that most comment on. I also get something a little different each time I sip this from session to session. Sometimes I'll get a rich and delicious caramel finish -sometimes a bitter chocolate -other experiences will yield an almost date like finish -albeit quite subtle. Then there are those moments when my buds are on point and get all the above mentioned in something of a medley. Lovely! Out of all the peat monsters out there -this one is considered by most entry level at best. As I said, I have tried most and this one keeps reeling me back. While Laphroaig 10 may merely be a gateway into peatville, it's a place I'm most certainly not ashamed to visit.
