Two fingers neat in a stemmed nosing glass. Pours a nice golden amber. Smells like fermenting bread with a sourdough character, plus a distinct hint of the sweetness to come. Decent bit of oak, with earthiness and resinous character from the wood. Bit of peppery spice, with some solvent notes. Sweet and spicy! Honey and sugar with a hot hot zip of alcohol, leading to a long, warm, numbing finish. I swear I've had gentler whiskey at cask strength. Acidic and oily, coating the mouth with a heated blanket. Long hot finish moving from the mouth to the throat and beyond; some deep cooling breaths help balance the heat, and bring some dark cocoa along with the ghost of sweetness. Szechuan peppercorn numbness lingers long after the last sips. Overall, not a favourite of mine... Lots of character to the point of being brash and abrasive, with the sweetness trying to soften an otherwise weighty blow. I wouldn't get another bottle at Onterrible prices...171.0 CAD per Bottle

Wow! Tasted in a nosing glass. Salted caramel sauce, marshmallow, and vanilla on the nose, smells so good! Almost like a sticky toffee pudding that's not quite done baking, or vanilla bean sugar cookies that are cooling down. A light sweetness; not cloying and not like bourbon barrel sweetness, but more restrained. Light and smooth body with a well rounded mouthfeel. Mild finish with a hint of spice, then sea salt and a lingering echo of the vanilla. World class tequila, drink this when you get a chance.57.0 USD per BottleAmmex Global Marketplace

Lot No. 40 12 Year Cask Strength
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed October 6, 2018 (edited May 19, 2019)Neat in a glencairn, wanted to try some before I crack my bottle... got lucky and found it at a local bar. Deep copper colour, matches the copper label! Big spicy rye, rock candy, and dusty oak on the nose. Sweet syrupy taste, not maple but like a sweet malted rye bread. Caramelized brown sugar, and spicy too. Syrupy and oily, with a looong medicinal finish. Really tasty. Get some while you can. -
Macallan Select Oak
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 4, 2018 (edited March 30, 2020)Neat in a glencairn, got a bottle as a gift. Awfully dark golden colour for a NAS whisky... Buttered toast and a wet grainy smell, with the faintest hint of floral notes. Light light light on the palate! Reminiscent of an Irish whisky, with a honey roundness and some mild oak on the finish. Not my favourite dram, just a bit too mild (bland?) for my taste. But I'm weird... so give it a shot if you want.
