GlenDronach Allardice 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 22, 2018 (edited September 23, 2018)Nose (w/o water): You get dark fruity notes at first. Then my favourite comes along, in the form of plums with cinnamon and wood spice, but with time you get lighter fruits, which you would expect in a gewuerztraminer. Taste (w/o water): Big arrival. Dark fruits, honey, some alcohol burn, charred wood with almost peaty notes, which goes into a long mouth watering finish that is worthy a 18yo sherry whisky! The Oloroso casks really shine in the finish as it becomes very dry, in a pleasant way. Summary: A beautiful sherry matured whisky that is worth the money and it comes with perfect ABV, as always in Glendronach. It's a stronger expression than the 12yo but falls a little short in comparison the the 21yo, which is just stunning! However, regarding the price I would rate this 87/100.67.0 EUR per Bottle -
Glen Garioch 15 Year Sherry Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 14, 2018 (edited July 24, 2020)dark and dry sherry nose with dried fruits, oak and alcohol. With water it opens up and becomes very enticing. The palate is typical and well made for solely Oloroso cask maturation. Fruits, cinnamon, sweet and oak with a long lasting pleasant aftertaste. This dram plays in the same ballpark as Aberlour A'bunadh, Glendronach CS or Kavalan Solist Sherry and is a worthy contender among those expressions and worth a try for sure!53.0 EUR per Bottle -
Knockando 18 Year 1994
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 3, 2018 (edited September 16, 2018)well this is different. The sherry is not sticky or sweet. It's dry, woody with lots of nuts. The nose dry sherry, light fruity notes and that's about it. The palate is starting sweet that it turns really dry, same as with a strong red wine. In addition, there are some nutty notes and a lot of oak. The aftertaste is mainly dry oak which is lingering on for quite some time. All in all, it's a decent dram but lacks some complexity. Maybe more ABV would be beneficial. (84/100) -
Glenlivet 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 11, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Nose: caramel glazed apples you get on a funfair. Actually I get caramel throughout the entire nose. With some salty notes and liquorice. I absolutely adore the nose and have to say it's one of the most pleasant ones I had so far but unfortunately the taste falls a little short. It offers some sweet and salty aspects. A little fruity character. the aftertaste ist very pleasant with a long lasting oaky and citrusy lingering. In order to wrap it up it is a fine and pleasant malt. The nose and aftertaste are worth the price tag however, the taste was rather disappointing. 84/100
