Auchentoshan 12 Year
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 11, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Smells like teen spirit...and maple/apple. There’s a slight burn on my lips, but hardly a burn. I can’t put my finger on the sweet flavor that is prominent (raisin maybe), but the finish is very dry (like a raisin...maybe). Second tasting - that smell is “rugged”. I’m not sure what that means exactly, but you get the idea -
Laphroaig 10 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 10, 2017 (edited December 14, 2017)First interesting note is the smell. It reminds me of cough syrup, and faint cigar smoke. The first sip, I taste tobacco, and a leathery type...something. Little to non-existent burn, and overall smoothy smooth! Taste #2 - it is growing on me. I taste jerky and the remnants of a smoked cigar. I moved from 3 to 4 stars. More to come? -
Journeyman Distillery Last Feather Organic Rye
Rye — Michigan, USA
Reviewed December 8, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Copper in color. Sweet, maple, woody aroma. There is a slight oiliness, but also sweet, banana taste, with hints of something unpleasant (like I’m swishing a shoe in my mouth...not leather... shoe). It is dry, and simple, little to no burn, and little spice. Overall, this is an easy sipper, but leaves me needing more flavor. -
Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 24, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)You can certainly tell by the color that this is aged fairly longer. Amber in color, smells of nail polish and, if you tilt your glass a certain way it seems, faint vanilla (directly above the glass as opposed to nose inside the glass). I taste a peppermint and tree bark / jerky, and immediately my mouth and lips have a numb, but tingling feeling at the same time. Burn sensation is medium, but no overbearing, then finishing with dark chocolate. -
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 20, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Smells a bit of rubbing alcohol and black pepper. Tasting notes - caramel, and after a quick swish, maple syrup. Minimal burn. Great pairing with a Guinness. 2nd taste - sweet / tart like a Granny Smith apple.
