Kirk and Sweeney 18 Year Rum
Aged Rum — Dominican Republic
Reviewed June 25, 2017 (edited September 10, 2019)The nose is truly amazing, I am smelling like caramelised grilled bananas but I am seing a liquor, amazing. Taste toffee, amazing smoothness with a little after burn, just to remind you you are drinking a 40% rum. Overall a fantastic rum when you know its sugar content to be so low, amazing (did I say amazing enough?). Sugar: 2 to 5 GPL -
It is not a great rum, would maybe not even go into my good rums section, as I tasting so many betters rums, but like his older brother, the ratio quality/price is amazing. I bought a bottle because I was curious, and because for the price it could anyway end up in my mixer section, to make cuba libre for instance. I tasted first neat, together with a glass of the Exclusiva Reserva next, and I was well surprised. It has many of the aromas of the ER. It would need to be aired more as the alcohol is much more present at first then with the ER, and I think an ice cube would do him good too, but at the end, you can really enjoy even as a sipping rum, which for his price, is surprising. Sugar: 7 GPL

Clément VSOP Rhum Agricole
Rhum Agricole Vieux — Martinique
Reviewed June 25, 2017 (edited January 12, 2018)This is the best Rhum agricole I have tested so far. Strong sugar cane flavor but very smooth at the same time, perfect balance. -
I find rum is often a lonely pleasure (not so many rum lovers around me) but when it comes to the Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, everybody just fall in loves with it after the first smell. I first tested it thru a friend (who normally drink whisky) and already introduced it to some other friends who directly bought their own bottle. Its amazing sweetness and strong vanilla flavor make it one of my first choice. Then I think it would normally deserve a 4 instead of a 5, because the best rum should have something a bit more to it and be less sweet, but not everyone can spend $100+ for a rum, so to its price range it is simply the best rum out there! PS: just changed him to 3 after tasting it with a Plantation 20th, then I thought it's sweetness overpowering, almost like syrup. I kept him a 4 for its price. Sugar: 41 GPL

To start, a nice vanilla smell in a great looking bottle. Then for the most important part, it is smooth and sweet (but comes from all the added sugar) but not too much like some (I downgraded my Diplomatico after tasted this), with a strong and beautiful caramel and vanilla flavor. Actually it remind me a lot of the vanilla "rhum arrangé" I make, but cleaner and smoother. Sugar: 29 GPL
