Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 7, 2019 (edited May 20, 2019)I’m surprised how much I liked this one. The EW black that I’ve tried comes off a bit rough around the edges, but still pretty decent for the price point. This one was so surprisingly smooth. Personally I prefer something with a little higher proof, but this truly is a fantastic bottle to have on hand, especially for the price.19.9 USD per BottleCostco Wholesale Bellevue -
Old Grand-Dad Bonded Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 16, 2019 (edited August 29, 2019)It has a funky overripe corn smell, which lingers as you continue to drink it. I tried this neat side by side with some Knob Creek small batch. The Knob Creek had a sweeter smell, but I feel that the old grand-dad bonded was a bit spicier. All things considered, I like the Old Grand-dad. It's a good budget bourbon, especially being bonded and at 100 proof. I'm glad I tried it; not sure if I'll get it again. I have to work my way through the rest of the bottle first. 5/8/19 follow up taste: took the last pour from the bottle tonight. I’ve gotta admit that this has grown on me. I think time and some air has been good for this one. I still get corn as a predominant taste, but I retract the overripe comment. This is robust, a good bottle to have on hand, and a solid value. I wouldn’t mind this as my daily drinker, although I’m still partial to Knob Creek. I will buy this again, but first I’ve got to complete the family and try OGD 114. Cheers!23.99 USD per Bottle -
As a Wisconsin native, I thoroughly enjoy my brandies. This one was a bit of an enigma, quite different from any others that I’ve tried. It’s much spicier than the Hennessy VSOP (current favorite cognac/brandy). Less fruity as well. The whiskey drinker in me enjoys that fact, but it is not at the top of my list for brandies. I am happy I tied it, but I feel there are better ones out there for the price.47.99 USD per Bottle
