Benromach Chateau Cissac Wood Finish 2009

Reviewed October 16, 2020Peaty, sweetish, can’t say I taste the special finish. It’s fine but probably won’t be getting again -
Hazelburn 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed October 11, 2020 (edited February 8, 2021)Light, crisp. Hints of sherry, green apple, watermelon, white wine grapes. Snatched a fleeting taste of chocolate chip cookies, if you believe that. Not exactly smoky but there are lingering remnants. A little water widens the palette. Quite enjoyable. -

Balvenie The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2020 -
Very smooth, delicate. Opens up a little with some time. White grapes, sherry. Something a little funky going on here — maybe the cereal notes. I think I prefer the 12 though. Wouldn’t say this is bad but for the price there’s no comparison for me I’d go with the 12. That said, the 12 changed as I explored the bottle. Maybe the same will happen here Edit: Definitely did happen. I’d rate this 4.5 now. No funkiness, quite smooth. Agree that letting it open up is a good idea.

Westland American Oak American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Washington , USA
Reviewed September 27, 2020 (edited December 8, 2020)Chocolate, coffee, touch of cherry, light bourbon + acetone on the nose. Medium/light body, semi-fruity. Slight sense of smoke on the back. A few drops of water round it off nicely. Could probably improve with some additional aging. Good enough entry level, but defiant superior compared to other American single malts I’ve tried.
