Wow! This was an interesting dram. Tasted it at Whisky Live in Brooklyn Pretoria. It was exceptional at the event, and stood out above the rest. The Dalmore Cigar Malt was its closest competitor, but at double the price and lacking something that the Glenlivet has. I had to buy a bottle. I think news spread at the event, because the bottle was finished first, beating its 18 year brother at double the pace.

At this stage this is my #1 whisky, but it changes in taste. Some days it is a beast, but have it too often and it becomes tame. I contrast it with Glenfiddich 15 Solera reserve (#2) to reset the appreciation. I also stretch my Caol Ila with Bowmore 15 (smooth, but not memorable) , Laphroaig Quarter Cask and then Ardbeg 10 (#3).

Glenfiddich 15 Year Solera Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 3, 2017 (edited May 9, 2017)This was my first Whisky I ever bought. Hard to tell if it is a first love, or just a very good choice to start with. The ginger and marzipan matches my taste perfectly. Too good for everyday drinking, but very easy default. I switch between this and the Caol Ila 12 depending on my mood.
