I find Oban 14 to be quite underwhelming. In comparison to Balvenie 12 yr doublewood, Oban has a weak nose and finishes like a ghost.

Great introduction to the wide world of whisky. Light body, with orange blossom notes and a light finish.

Good starting place for the uninitiated. Very accessible, as nose is rich but not overwhelming, with an initial touch of oak, and a rum-esque finish, though not syrupy.

Great scotch for the price. Profile reminiscent of oak aged Chardonnay: lots of vanilla, honey.
  6. Taketsuru Pure Malt 12 Year

Great japanese whiskey. Better than either 18 yr suntory or hibiki. Subtle initial smokiness of islay with a highland-esque finish. Lagavuilin lite with a balvenie finish.
