I think I get what people are referring to when they describe Mortlach as 'meaty'. It has a very distinct, full and almost savory note which I don't think I've noticed from other distilleries. Very nice.

It's got a decent amount going on, but just doesn't make you want to come back for more. I get what seems to be a younger tasting component of the blend lingering on the palate. Unfortunately, I tried this after having the 12, and it just doesn't compare. After a second visit, i threw in a little bit of water. It opened this one up quite a bit. Recommend rocks for this one.

This was my first foray into Japanese whisky. A great balance of sweet fruit and floral notes. Not super complex, but in this case that's OK. Smoother than most 12 year scotches. Very drinkable.

This was my go-to whiskey while in Ireland. Stands heads and shoulders above the standard Jameson.

Can't quite put my finger on this one. It's smooth, but there appears to be an over-oaked woodiness that lends some bitterness to the drink.

One of my favorite bourbons. Sweet banana, with a hint of rye-like spiciness. You can feel the warmth as you drink this, but it's smooth enough you don't need to dilute.
